Guys..Whats the best stainless exhaust? I've seen all the adverts, now i want to hear your opinions.
I have just removed my completely rotten one. There was a hole bigger than my fist on the bend that goes over the nearside drive shaft!!! No wonder it sounded good. Now, am i going to be disappointed with fitting a decent exhaust?
I want an exhaust that gives NOISE..!
(car is a 350i)

Not sure I can help on the make side of things as I have never noticed any name on my system. It is a full stainless including manifolds and looks to be the same layout as shown in the bible. 2 into 1 collector in middle of car single large bore pipe over Lh drive shaft and accross the back of the car and twin pipes welded into the side of the cross pipe these exit through the Rh side of the rear skirt. Sound is fantastic. V8 burble to about 2500 -3000 rpm, then a marked change of tone to an absolute howl from 3000 upwards. FANTASTIC. Mind you when I bought the car I did have to cut all the mounts and one of the flanges off and reweld them so that the system actually fitted without touching anything and to make the rear pipes exit horizontally and perpendicular to the rear of the car.

Im sure Tim (2 sheds) will advise you on this one, he can have sports systems made with minimal silencing, which all being well will be on my list new year!

JP Exhausts at Macclsefield; custom made and fitted to your car. The owner even has a 350! There systems are also available through various dealers at a 10% to 150% mark up. Mine has lasted 12 years so far and has a single silencer box - plenty of popping and crackling.

I bought a stainless one from 'Wedge or RT' a few
years ago for my 400SE - it was a nice system.

I would recomend him - good quality exhausts.

I got mine made and fitted by PD Gough in Watnall near Nottingham over 10 years ago. I haven't had any problems and both the manifild and system are guaranteed for the life of the vehicle. They advertise in Practical Classics and elsewhere the advert shows an Owl riging an exhaust system as a broomstick. Old phone no on receipt is 0602 382241 although that is probably invalid now.

I had mine replaced by Peninsula in 2000, and they were £188 each.

I think you'll find Tim does pretty much do a discount if you compare his prices, even if you get quote from JP direct.
Don't forget as well, someone has to provide the mule and do development work for getting any aftermarket system out, that includes footing the bill for the unknown. Its a two way thing, someone developes something have the decency at least buy it from them.
BTW if you are looking to get manifolds done talk to Tim about some subtle tweeks being developed at this very moment in time, can't buy that info from someone else
