hi,

somebody offered me a Tasmin Coupé with a V6 engine fitted...interestingwise with a carburator...which made me start wondering...and here we go: the car was originally a 2l model.

so my question now: does the V6 fit into a 2l model without ANY modification to the chassis, so that the chassis stays in original unwelded condition?

also exhaustwise: does the 2l has already a twin exhaust or not?

Looking at my 2L it has 2 sets of engine mounts so I suspect the 2L chassis is actually a modified V6 chassis with the V6 mounts left in. I guess on this basis there shouldn't be a problem putting the V6 back in.....unless the extra mounts for the 2l engine get in the way.
The 2l has a single exhaust running down the drivers side.

thanx for the info.

i got furhter info about the car....the owner, which does have no clue about tvr´s told me that he spoke with somebody from the Tvr club and they told him

"The TVR owners club in the U.K. have confirmed to me that in the eighties it was not unknown for TVR Tasmin which was originally going to have a 2.0 Lt engine fitted, to have a 2.8 Lt engined fitted in the factory at the last minute. The paperwork not being changed."

should i believe that or not?

it might be true, but TVR definatley fitted an injection engine than?

You might want to look closely at the inlet manifold if it has a carburettor: Ford did a 2.3L version of the V6 that ran carbs, so you might not even have a 2.8. The carb manifold has '2.3' cast into it.
The 2.3 is a heavy, gutless monster, you'd be better off with a 2L hehe

If you're going to all the bother of fitting a V6 with all associated wiring/cooling/transmission probs why not get a 2.9 24 valve engine. However, the 2.9 gives V6 smoothness but weighs a heck of a lot whilst the 2.0 litre can be made very quick and nimble. I'd put the effort into better brakes, tyres, engine mods, or perhaps a cossie. Sorry Comadis, The title of your posting made me think you already had a 2.0l and has been offered another car to scavange. If it works, I wouldn't worry about it, but still get a decent rubber and brake upgrade in the christmas sales! Regards, Mark

the interesting thing is that TVR built "only" 16 cars of the 2l FHC!!

in the meanwhile i´m not sure anymore if i should buy it or not...as i know some more details which make me think different....(aftermarket glasroof which was leaking and thereofore the footwhell carpets have been scrapped...the rest of interior seams to be ok. wrong cheapish aftermarket mirrors, narrower allyos with 185 tyres, windscreen resealed cause it was also leaking)...hmmm...

a V6 on carb, probably someone ditched the mechanical FI and put a carb on it... Thats what we did with our racer, as did quite a few of the other 2.8 racers
