I've got one eye on this as due to health reasons I don't have a licence at the moment.
I should get my licence back in April but there's an outside chance it may be auto only.
This maybe wouldn't be my number one choice but is it the only TVR auto option there is?

That's done it!

If Chris gets one, he'll work hard on it and it'll be improved so I hope he does.

Now we're talking!

I've put too much into the V8S at the moment, so unless I'm pushed it is staying, and Dave I think you'd better keep quiet being Mr 3 TVR's!

I really don't think it would fit - the V8 & manual box are an inbelievably tight fit.

Changing to auto is normally easier than the other way round (been there/done it on other vehicles).'
You need a decent size motor though.

Basically, chuck the clutch pedal away, maybe need rad with integral oil cooler (for the auto box), possibly shortened and balanced prop with auto input splines, speedo drive might need changing, on Tiv may need to re-postion gearlever trans tunnel hole, and that's about it. smile

I think the issue would be that the chassis rails aren't far apart down the centre of the car - all the autos I've seen have a sump type arrangement which is quite a bit wider than the manual box.

What are the options with a V8 - is it purely the old SD1 auto box?

Hmmm....you've got me there, as it's mainly Fords I've messed about with in the past.

I suppose it depends on the shape of the box and how low it (the sump on it) sits...might fit UNDER the rails.

I am familiar with the Ford 2.8i autobox, but I'd have thought that would be a bit gutless for a sports car. scratchchin

There'll be someone on here who'll know his Rover autos, so I'll defer to them as to dimensions. You need to get your tape measure out. smile

Advertised as having ABS...

On a 1981 car??

Forget that, a 1981 TVR?!?!

IIRC, certainly the later wedges were available with ABS, but I didnt think ABS had really been productionised until after 81?

I guess an enthusiastic owner might have retrofitted it?

SSE - Wonder what that stands for.

Guess it could be a typo of SE, but the early Tasmins weren't SEs.

Perhaps its been augmented with stuff that would make it SE spec in the owners mind? That would fit with the addition of ABS...

Correction from the Steve Heath book - ABS was NEVER available on any of the Wedges.

I was thinking of PAS, which I have!

Some individual may still have retrofitted it though...

If you've got bagsamoney, you may be able to have pretty much any TVR fitted with a Drenth sequential box, and you can get electromechanical shifters which basically turns the car into a flappypaddle transmission. I dont know how it deals with the clutch. Is there still a clutch pedal?

Mine has remote locking.tongue out

I think that car under discussion would need a serious going over, as whoever is selling seems to know bugger all about them. hehe

Well looking at the pics on this LINK the shifter has positions for 321D which would suggest its a 4 speeder at least.
I'm guessing the old SD1 was a 3 speed box?
Interesting that its come from a van and has a serp front end with carbs.

where to start...too many things not ok on this car:

1. enginebay in differnt color than the car--> car was resprayed in non original color

2. bumpers do normally have a differnt color than car--> confirms the respray

3. original mirrors missing (and cheapish, ugly, aftermarket ones fitted)

4. non original alloys

5. is there a spare alloy ( boot is empty)

6. is the the cover for the hard-panel?

7. shroud around fan missing

8. retrofit expansion bottle (not necessary, as its an open cooling system)->maybe fitted cause it overheats?

9. doorcards damaged with loudspeaker holes

10. no chassis pictures (wonder why)

11. rare model, but the automatique-gearbox makes a 2.8 car even more un-attractive than it already is.
