It's only a thought!

I hate my earlier style mirrors, the driver's side was smashed to bits when I bought the car (the plastic backing plate) and no matter how many times I re-tighten the pivot bolts on the passenger side the bd thing becomes loose again. The electrics barely work on them and most of all I think they look crap.

Not wanting to go down the route of sourcing second hand items from a certain breaker ("how much" rofl ) or getting brand new mouldings with no innards, I have been observing other potential donor mirrors.

I want to get away from the door mounted idea and adopt the later style A pillar position.

MK1 Mondeos have a fairly similar look to the later Wedge ones and in addition to being electrically adjustable they are sometimes heated too. The problem is however is the size of the base on the Mondeo mirrors; it's a lot bigger than the Wedge mounting position.

I'm willing to have a go at adapting the mounting plate, somehow..........

What do you reckon?

At risk of being shot down in flames.....I fitted BMW M3 style mirrors (available from Halfrauds etc), almost a perfect match to the metal backing plate, have a look at my profile pic and see what you think.

These? They look a better fit than the Mondeo's. Could be tempted to go bidding on them!

The M3 mirrors look better than I expected!

They're the ones, I should receive them in a day or two, I'll keep you posted.
They look pretty similar to original and, to be quite honest, from my experience the only thing you need to look out for in a Wedge rear view mirror is blue flashing lights! hehe

I'm replacing almost everything on mine before LeMans, and then the following week there's BBWF so I've got to get it right first time! eek

Have you got a better pic, as I cant see them well enough on your profile.
I need some units to fit on the 4.0 FHC racer.

Hi Leigh,
This is the best photo of them I have at the moment, just needed the back plate sanding a little with a belt sander to get the best angle and three holes drilling through the metal window plate to match the holes in the mirrors

Cheap enough on Ebay at £20 for the manual ones

They don't look took too bad.
And seeing as the 280 never had mirrors there, there are not holes and can put the holes where ever I want / need to.

Are your's real CF

Got mine through this morning. The "triangle" which fixes to the car is a little bigger than I thought, but nothing that cant be sorted!
They do look very similar to the originals, but hopefully will work better!
Bonus, they are also heated so will defrost on those cold mornings!

Hopefully will not need a mounting plate, I just put 3 capped bolts all the way though the door then into the mirror.

I went ahead and bought the Mk3 Fiesta jobbies off of e-bay.

They turned up the next day! They will need a bit of modification smash to fit, but it's do-able.

Thought I would pick up a pair and give it a try too, it would be nice to have mirrors that point in a useful direction.
