What do you need to know I know at least 3 people on here that have fitted them.

www.megasquirt.info

MS comes in different flavours. Plain MS will do fuel, whereas MS2 will do fuel and spark.

For MS, you lose the air flow meter, old ecu (obviously), and have to add a different throttle pot (cheaper than the original one!), connect up a vacuum line to the inbuild ecu MAP sensor, and fit a crank trigger wheel and sensor, which has all been done before and you can get the parts easily from www.triggerwheels.com.

May also be able to lose the resistor pack?

MS and MS2 are re-mappable, so you can tweak the fuelling and spark precisely over all speed and load conditions.

Emerald works similarly.

The original flapper system is pants by comparison.

They will both do fuel and spark.

There are two big differences between Emerald and MegaSquirt.

If you buy Emerald you will pay more but it will come more or less ready to install. If you're handy with the principles of tuning car engines and basic electrics/electronics then you could install it yourself, more usually you'd pay an expert to do it for you.

MegaSquirt is significantly cheaper, but is a very different system. It's an experimental system aimed at the DIY tinkerer. This route will save you money but you will need to get much more involved in how it works, and you will have to install and set it up yourself. If you think this sounds like fun then you're probably the sort of person who's likely to succeed with it. If you think it sounds like a nightmare but want to save money anyway, probably not for you. You're unlikely to find any professionals willing to install and set this up for you since it does not have any type approvals.

This is one of the things I found very hard to get to grips with MS - there are so many different combinations of hardware, firmware, software and wiring options that it is very difficult to work out which combination[s] are required or why. Fortunately if you go through the better known UK suppliers they will lead you through the minefield and tell you what you need. But it's a lot harder than just scanning down the price list and picking the set of features you want - which is all you need with Emerald, Omex etc.

Hi
I cant comment about fitting, but my car had Emerald fitted before I got it, and it was not the first car I drove before i bought it, but one of the reasons I bought it was how it drove, and a few years later and I still think the Emerald is one of the reasons I like the car, but only one, there are several others!
