Mr Vr6 hasn't a chance
if your 400 is in good health it can crack the 60 in about 5.5- 5.3secs Vr6 is a 6.5-7.0 sec machine plus that engine doens't age well post 60K they're typically down on power by 15-20%

Is it a standard Golf? Reason I ask is I had an interesting comparison with a Seat Ibiza recently.........I couldn't get near it.........yikes The Griff 500 is a bloody quick car but this Seat turned out to have an Audi 1.8 litre turbo engine in with modified innards, bigger turbo, fully mapped to give nearly 300 GG's. We were on a private stretch of tarmac & our performace was identical all the way over 140+

well aside from the 2.8 V6, its Normally asperated. I know hes running bigger wheels but thats about all. of, and he has 4 motion. Im sure the wedge would take off like a scaulded cat though and be taller in each gear.

Hello! Do you know this is a TVR forum??! hehe

The MK3 isnt the best of the pack, lets be honest...saying that, a girl in my office has got a GTI which has now got a modified 2.9 VR6 and she recons its really quite rapid.

Only one way to find out!! driving

How do you come to this conclusion? Have you owned a TVR,have you owned a 400SE?
If i still had my old 400SE & came across an (ageing) Golf VR6 who wanted some action at the lights, it wouldn't concern me.. competant or not.

When driven to it's maximum capability, the 400SE is indeed a 'properly' fast car. smile

the races are slightly modified road cars some not modified much, and if they was not a competant car, then they would not be any good.

and for you information I have a A3 1.8TS (same as a Golf GTI) and a 400SE and a 4.0 FHC racer.
Plus if you read my other post, I was at Cadwell park at the weekend in the A3 (wanted to learn the track and both TVR's are having work done to them), and the 4.0 Chim was doing a lot better than me.

so I roll my eye's back to you.

Golf
Engine Size 2792 cc
Cylinders 6
0-60 mph 7.4 s
Power Output 174 bhp
Valves 12
Torque 235 Nm 173 lb-ft
Top Speed 140 mph

400SE

If you think the 400Se is not a competant car then either you have a bad one, can't drive or don't own one at all.

My 390 would spank the golf easy don't care who is driving it!!!!!

hahaha i wondered how long it would take for the bad driver insult was thrown in haha (cock) the golf is a very competant car the 400 a very fast car , but the golf goes round corners on rails the Tiv does not why you people feel the need to quote statistics i have no idea , it tells you very little , dont try to tell me what is what i have owned a 430 Se and a golf 4motion i know exactly what each is capable of doing and on an b road the golf every time on a fast a the tiv maybe , but in normal conditions you should know there would be very little difference

Perhaps lost soul should consider his use of the English language.

1. Competent is spelt like this.

2. The definition of competent is "adequate, fit for the purpose"

3. Whether the 400se would win on the day or not can only be proven 1 way

4. I think we all agree that the 400se is "adequate or fit for the purpose" to have a bloody good go!! smokin

5. Thus the 400se is indeed a competent car.

6. I rest my case
