Just been out in the Wedge for a 'proper' drive, first time since the Emerald was installed a month ago, not been able to drive it due to a slipped disk and have been itching to give it a go, so tonight was the night with clear roads and dry tarmac.
What a difference the ECU and mapped ingnition/fuel makes, engine runs smooth, no shunting and the car has a hell of a kick that is just seemless all the way through the rev range when you press the loud pedal, Toyo 888's stick like s
t to a blanket too!
Sat in the conservatory having a JD and coke and I can still hear the exhaust ticking as it's cooling down 1/2 an hour after I pulled up on the path........ahhhhh Wedgedom, don't you just love it!

YES !
Your car LOOKS ready to rocket in your profile pic...so planted on those wider wheels.
Are you going to bring it up to York ?
You'll probably leave me for dead in a side to side.
Mine's going into the mechanic tomorrow to sort the ancillary whine and have a good checkover, then rolling road tune before the drag racing commences.
Please let it be DRY !
Now daydreaming about supercharging.

Yes Graham, hoping to be at York on Easter Sunday, have to get busy and sort out the wiring and a map for the nitrous then it's all systems go
hope it's a dry day too or I will have to put the Toyo Proxes back on as the 888's don't perform to well in the wet.
Keep the whine on your car for a bit longer......sounds like a Supercharger on the Vid!
Hope you get it sorted though it's always a worry when something isn't right, I'm paranoid about everything at the moment due to the level of mods done over the past year but it was nice to 'spank' it tonight for a change rather than worry that I was going to melt a piston or two!

Glad to hear the Emerald is working well ... it's really great to just plug the laptop in and see what everything is doing .. removes so much of the guess work that we have with the Lucas systems..
Re the 888's .. I had these and they are not nice in the wet .. in heavy rain with standing water the feeling is that they float and squirm about .. not confidence inspiring.

They won't run the event if it's wet.

I've just got back from the mechanic, and he says it's nothing serious.
Slightly whiny alternator, which I can do myself (hols in 2 weeks).
I just never want to get out of my car...like this morning...drove about 20 miles back from the garage, which is about 3 miles away, and filled up with V-power too, ready for the weekend.

eta: Off to Lincolnshire in half an hour...sooo tempted to take the Wedge.

Wouldn't worry about it Graham, all it takes is a fluffed start or a missed gear from your opponant and its all over, just be good to let them rip without frightening the neighbours or attracting the attention of the BiB
Lincolnshire in the Wedge......you know you want to!

Im very envious! I want to get rid of the crappy Lucrap injection system for something that works properly.
Next year I should be able to afford to do it...
Hi Ed, didn't have a problem with the Lucas system, just couldn't get it to work well with the supercharger, even with the trick adjustable ecu and Jag air flow meter, so rather than take the charger off, it seemed sensible to upgrade to something that would work well and give me the opportunity to carry out more mods in the future (more boost and more CC's) but will have to look at improving other areas of the car first like drive shafts and chassis strengthening etc.Next year I should be able to afford to do it...
Quite a few Wedgers have gone down the Emerald route so it seemed the obvious choice and enable me to pick their brains when a problem occurs

How's the rebuild coming along?

Hi Rick how's it going? still trolling with that Lotus then!
Not been to the Wheatsheaf yet but will get up to a meet when we have the lighter evenings, fancy another ride in that mental Cupra if you still have it!

So I take it the emerald is money well spent ?
Think I'd miss the flapper crackle, but I suppose you could have a crackle map just for pissing off the neighbors !
So if you have a flapper and go with the Emerald system..you'd lose the 'Rice Crispies' from the pipe? Think I'd miss the flapper crackle, but I suppose you could have a crackle map just for pissing off the neighbors !

I love my snap, crackle, pop...

I think (not 100% Sure) that you can recreate the "Snap Crackle n' pop" electronically buy making the mixture extra lean on overrun, but as the latest Emerald has switch-able maps you could have maps for Optimax, regular and a special crackle map !
Could be a route I end up following as I think the Lucas system is a bit clockwork and from a service perspective you get rid of the obsolete AFM (and the restriction it causes) can use any throttle pot and it opens up the possibilities for further tweaking.... where's my credit card...
Maybe I should fix me UJ's first !

Well it definately still pops and bangs like normal on the overrun, probably due to the use of a PVM valve to help stabilise the idle control.
But I am going to put the removeable baffles back in the rear silencers today as it shamefully loud at the moment, I had to creep back up the road on tickover at 2am this morning to avoid waking the neighbours
