Perhaps he is out looking around the countryside for his missing horses?

Ok, here's the sheets:

Yes I was expecting to be disappointed, but there are a couple of things to sort out, which the run showed.
Richard was a brilliant operator, and gave me some really useful advice.
He had problems getting proper readings from the probe stuck up her bum...caused he thought by the large diameter pipe.

Fuelling is leaning off higher up rev range, and he says he can improve a lot on that with an adjustable fuel regulator, which I'm having fitted at another session in a week or so, plus injectors cleaned and checked generally (possibly renewed). Then moving on to airflow, etc.

There is more to come ! biggrin

Other than that he reckons the engine runs superb. Oh, nowt broke! hehe

Anyway, I'll throw these figures open to discussion.

Music to the ears! cloud9

The 2nd run looks to me to be typical for a good 400... Torque figure drops off markedly after 4000rpm, but she sounds like she wanted to rev & rev!
Hidden Vtec? wink

Interesting viewing, now..if i am only brave enough to do the same. boxedin

How much was the session Graham if you don't mind me asking?

224hp at the flywheel isnt bad at all considering the afr ratio, probably pick up at least another 10 or so when that gets sorted. clap

rofl +1 !

Graham

bow

Not too bad, it's only down by 20 or so ponies, As far as I know all the TVR Hotwires run far too lean at high revs - you need a Mark Adams chip

Rising rate fuel reg can help here but that's more of a frig than a fix

Dread to think what mine would show on the rollers, only one way to find out I suppose biggrin

Hi Wayne.smile

Total cost for 2 hours was £138. (Don't get much for that in a garage these days, eh ?)
These people build race and rally cars...really know their stuff.

I certainly felt I'd got my moneysworth, and look forward to the next visit.
I'm wanting to sort the basic running of the car before considering 'add-ons' wink

Is that 21.33 mph/1000rpm? Isn't that a bit low? I thought it was supposed to be 25.4-ish. Otherwise 6000 rpm would only be 130mph, I thought the 400SE was a bit faster than that.

According to the sheet they used 4th gear.

Yes...4th gear used.

I was going to use that figure to work out my diff ratio, come to think of it scratchchin

MATHEMATICIAN PLEASE !!!

Getting this adjustable fuel regulator (not rising rate) thingy fitted in a week or so, and other 'stuff' done, as I've 3 weeks holiday upcoming. smile

Ian, I was thinking of fitting one of your plenum insulators while he's got it off, but wondering if there are bonnet clearance issues ?

Nearly 130 in 4th wouldn't be bad though would it. woohoo

Probably 3.54:1, that was the most common ratio fitted.
You could probably get a 6mm insulator in there without the bonnet colliding... but I couldn't guarantee it. Mine runs a 10mm insulator, but I shaved 10mm off the trumpet base to compensate.

Umm strange as my Flapper Torque does not drop off until a bit after 5000 RPM

Graham, did the price include the guy at motoscope doing some diagnostics & fine tuning on your car or was it just for the dyno runs only?

My 390 is still refusing to give me full power above 4500rpm, despite me trying just about every single trouble shooting exercise on Ramon's excellent Vintage Model Airplane website. I could do with getting another professional eye cast over it before i pull the engine and strip it down to check it mechanically (and probably bung a racier cam and carbs on it)
