Encouraged by the fact that a 1.5" socket does the hub nut. I set about removing a drive shaft to fix a UJ.
Coil spring retained, shock and lower link released, nuts all removed without a problem.(impact gun helpssmile)
However the drive shaft is still in the hub carrier, I resisted the urge to put the nut back on and wack it with a suitable hammer.

I'll put a puller on it tommorow.

What are the chances I'll xxxx the bearing?
It's a '85 280, what is the bearing from I've seen VW and Granada III both cited?

Jeff, don't quite understand what you are doing here. If you are not removing the trailing arm/hum assembly then you will need to pull the inner flange off it's mounting and drop it down to get the shaft out. It shouldn't be too tight in the bearing a tap with a hammer and block of wood should do it. The bearing is MK2 Granada, but on the Granada the seals are different front to back, on the TVR they are the same (can't remember if it's 2 of the front or back that are used). Cheers Steve

The wheel bearing is good, but the caps are moving in the yokes of of the UJs despite only one UJ having visable play. I going to get the yokes rebuilt and put new doughnuts in. $25 yoke rebuild + $16 per doughnut. Not bad 'til you factor in lunch to drop them off and another when picking 'em upsmile.

The hub was very sticky on the spline, glad I used as puller.

I'll add the UJ part numbers for US Wedgers as the P 051 in the old parts list gets blank stares. Quite a common size freely avaiable.

Hi Jeff, I'm about to remove both drive shafts to replace u/j's. Is the near side wheel bearing a left hand thread, or are they just extremely tight?
Thanks, Ian

I think you should find that both sides are standard threads. Hence the reason why Wedges always lose the N/S wheel. Unless of course someone has modified the D/S. Cheers Steve

Correct both RH thread.
May need a bit of a shock to undo them, probably has thread lock on it.
I'd rather undo a hundred of these than one caliper boltsmile
