I have my refurbished Princess calipers ready to fit but does anyone know whether the connection for the flexi brake pipe comes out of the top or bottom. i.e. which caliper fits where?

Cheers

I would suspect the top.

The usual rule would be to fit them so that the bleed nipples are at the top.

Not a good view with the wheel on, but flexi seems to go into bottom of caliper.

just so you know there should be a short copper pipe to join the flexie pipes on to the callipers, pretty sure they go into top of calliper, and the top has 2 holes next to each other, hope that helps.

Thanks guys for your help.

Differing opinions as Grahams flexi apperas to go into the bottom of the caliper and in a photo Ian sent me via mail, his connections are at the top. I must admit I think I'll follow redwedge5's lead and just leave them on the floor (mine look like that) I think I'll just buy a parachute or an anchor instead. In the photo from Redwedge5 his caliper has only one connection whereas on the photo Ian sent me his has two connections with a 3 way connector in the copper connection from the flexi. Which would be the norm?

Thanks again

Hi Shaun,

The two pipes or one pipe bit depends on where the caliper came from, the princess had integral dual circuit plumbing so would have had two flexible hoses one going to each hose inlet and each inlet would have provided pressure to on pair of pistons (split upper and lower I suspect to get pressure on both sides of the disk). As the TVR calipers don't have any additional external pipework (other than the inlet) I suspect that they have been drilled internally somewhere to connect both sets of pistons to one inlet.

If the Calipers are from some form of BL wedge you either need to connect both inlets together with a T or connect the lower bleed nipple outlet back up to the second inlet something like this

PS Pic also shows inlets & Bleed nipple at the Top (Bleed nipple's always go at the top as bubbles rise in the fluid ! yes

That's what you would think, but last time I did my 400SE at my mates garrage, on his 4 posters and workshop pressure bleeder, we got air out of all the nipples, even after doing the top one 1st. the car had had the hoses changed. so quite a bit of air may have got in. but looks like design is not very good and can trap pockets of air.
