Has anybody replaced their 280i warm up regulator with one of these http://unwiredtools.com/utcis-v.asp ? I just bought a 280i from across the country in the US. It still hasn't arrived but I do know it sat for some time and the mechanic that looked at it wasn't getting fuel beyond the warm up regulator. Car fired just fine with starter fluid. The previous owner has taken apart the wu reg. but I fear parts might have disappeared by now. This seems like a good solution but wanna see if anybody else has tried it.

Thanks and I already love the site!

Hi Ben
How "North East" are yousmile?

That WUR replacement looks as though it would work and it is half the price of a Bosch.
I think you should invest in a CIS type pressure guage, the one with the T and the valve.

With reguard to the existing WUR that is in bits. Some Porshce guys have repaired theirs, other have made them adjustable to be able to increase/adj the control pressure from a set system pressure.

If it were my car I would really like to check the Fuel dist before I paid out for a new WUR.
My brain is currently trying to think how to do this as I typebiggrin

Anyway first job is to get some new gas in it and check the flow, 30cc in a minute from memory, I'll come back and edit if that's wrong.

Edit make that 750cc in 30 seconds (minimum)

I'm in Lancaster, PA.

Of course I haven't seen the car yet. Just trying to figure out my options for when it finally gets here. This looked better than paying for a remaned wur or a new one. Love it if I knew someone else had tried and succeeded using one before plunking down the money.

Funny how we trade these cars around the country, I bought mine out of New Hope.

Anyway, welcome aboard. As I'm still having trouble with my CIS (and so far the local Porche shops have not been too crazy about seeing a non-German car in the driveway rolleyes ) so you first post and its link is of great (if expensive) value!

Expensive huh? It looks like it should take about 2 hours to put in and tune. To me that's a whole lot cheaper than messing around with the WUR or replacing it.smile

I just wish the dang shipper would get off his but and pick the car up already... been delayed twice now!

Horse and Buggy country ehsmile
I'm in South Jersey about 20 min South of Philly.

Ben did you get a manual with car (although I realise you don't actually have the car yet)
I gave this a bit of thought.....The system pressure is 73 lbs/inch, the control pressure, that's after the WUR, is 52 warm.
So maybe you could bypass the WUR, reduce the system pressure by shimming the pressure reg down to around 50/55 to simulate control pressure. This would get the motor to run and prove the Fuel distributor. Once you know the F.D. is ok then it is worth buying the electronic WUR.
Injectors op 46 - 51 btw.

Grady,
Have a look at pelican parts forum or your local PCA for an independent in your area. Ask them if they can check your control pressure for you.
Tell them it's a 1976 2.7, get an appointment then just turn upbiggrin
Other choices....move to a poorer neighborhood (where they need the work) or bung some Techron through it.

No manual. I just ordered the 400 page parts manual from the N. A. TVR club. Will probably order the wedge manual too once I get the car and the first book.

A CIS gauge won't help me will it as the car is a none runner or will it As far as the distributor goes, is it the same as a Ford Capri ...particuarlly this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...
I'm just guessing at this point but it would either be the WUR or the distributor that is bad judging by talking with the current owner and his mechanic. The owner refered to it as needing an injector so I'm assuming that was either the distributor or the wur as if it was an injector it would have been replaced.

I'd like to order both parts at least used for england so I can plug and play once the car gets here but need a little help as to what cars the exact (or usable set up is in).

Thanks!

Can anybody get me a picture of the fuel distributor/ metering system. I think I may have sourced one out of a Capri injection but want to be sure.

Thanks!
