Power Steering Fluid - looks strange.

Checking mattmans 400se yesterday we noticed the power steering fluid was Grey, bit like engine oil? We have never changed it and it never needs filling so we never have, but Power steering fluid should be clear/red.... right? Or do you fill this with anything else? Someone in the past may have used engine oil? strange? Works fine but doesnt seem right? Any ideas?

In my experience you must use power steering fluid which is usual a shade of red. If it is grey, then either it has been contaminated in some way and some when. Or as happened with me, the pump seals were weakand had to be reconditioned. The latter may show by external leaks.
