Since I live in the US and in Texas for that matter I have decided to finally go ahead and spring for an aftermarket A/c system for my Wedge. Anyone know the dimensions of the evaporator box (the big unit under the dash)?

Why not keep the evaporator and change the compressor, expansion valve and drier?

The evaporator is the toughestest bit to get to.
Sandon 507, flare explansion valve and flare drier. You may want to consider a "shorty" drier as the 8" is really close to the hood/bonnet. (on mine).
You can put the bulb/coil of the expansion valve on the low side as it exits into the engine bay as long as you insulate it with cork, no need to even access the old evap.

I think a shorty drier is only available in 3/8 O ring I got flare adapters.

Are you going 134a or staying with R12?

My Evaporater is trash. Falling apart. I am going to 134. Already have the Sanden and bulkhead forward installed. I need the dimensions so I know which one is the closest in size.

I should have guessed that your evaporator is leaking as nobody is going in there unless they have tosmile

From the drawings in the manual it appears to be 10". But it is drawn as a box not a finned unit (slightly confusing)
The drawing also shows no drain in the evap box. Who designed this ?

Are you looking for a direct replacement or a aftermarket unit that includes it's own blower, vents and hopefully a drain? Nostalgic air in Tampa has a few that might fit.

If you are looking for just the Evaporator then you might have to plumb in an air source from inside the car as cooling Texas air from the top of the hood is a mammoth task even for a modern car. Right side of box down to the footwell perhasps.

Let me know what you all find, it's on my list too. (Along with a new top, seat covers, windshield, paint...banghead) About the cost of a new Camaro. Grady

I am going to replace the whole unit. Looking at one of the Vintage Cool/Heat/Defrost units. 10" ???? What is the H X W X D?

Sorry Russ,
I didn't catch your question as it was inside the quotes.
The 10 inches is the length of the unit from left to right. Which of course could be considered the widthsmile

That's my esitmate from the TVR drawing in the manual.
The whole area in which the heater /evaporator sits is sixteen inches across.

I think you have to pull out the dash before actually ordering one and have a good look inside.

Have you e mailed Marshall, his cars usually have everything working, he may have changed one.

I know he used a Vintage or HotRod Air on his white Taz but he didn't know which model. Any idea of depth and height?
