Morning all,

Whilst I've got the rear end of the car in pieces I'm keen to give the chassis a bit of protection. What do people recommend as a paint on coating? I'm thinking a coating of POR15 followed by some epoxy based paint. Or are there better systems out there?

Thanks,
Chris

Sounds like a good proposal to me.

I had looked at POR15 aparently it is very good.

Make sure you are very careful with it as it will stick to alomst anything and is a B*T*H to get off in fact in most cases impossible.

You'll need old clothes/overals and double layered rubber gloves to apply it.

Good news is once its on it aint going anywhere.

I bottled out (well between me and my friend who did all the work we did) and went the Hammerite route.

If my wedge needs doing again sometime (maybe 10-15 years?) I'll go for the POR15.

Just my 10p worth.

My experience of POR15 is not good although I could be doing a disservice to the product. My chassis was newly painted with it when I bought it but the stuff just peeled off the bare metal underneath. Of course it could all be down to incorrect prep - but I stripped it back and had it zinc coated and painted.

Cheers Shaun

I think POR15 is not designed for clean bare metal, its fine on rust, but if the metal is clean, then your need to use metal ready or a primer. It's a very good protector from stone chips etc, and is good on rust. but ideally should be a 2nd coat.

Excellent, I think I'll go for an order of POR15 then, my chassis is suffering from a fair bit of surface rust (not noticed anything worse yet) so it sounds like the stuff.

Now if I could just find a replacement link bar all will be good biggrin

Cheers guys.

I've used it and it's like any paint - needs the metal to be quite ruff to get a good key on the surface..
