Following my rusted solid rear shock eye bushes and spending two weeks trying to get replacements I decided that I would clean up the shocks a bit for when the parts do eventually turn up.

Then I noticed a crack on one shock so checked the other, it's cracked too yikes

Further inspection shows a lot of corrosion so it looks to me like these cracks have been there a long time, I suspect that the holes in the shock where slightly under size and when the bushes have been pressed in the casting broke

I have the invoice for these dated 21/6/07 and they are not exactly in good health and the car has done very little miles.

Not a happy bunny, frown taking the shocks back to have a conversation with the supplier.

I have exactly the same shocks, took mine off two weeks ago for a rebush, and had exactly the same problem. Less then 2000 miles over 2 years! Emailed Kevin and he took them back for immediate repair. The replacements which I have just received have a lot more metal left around the bottom mounts, so I hope will last longer. I've checked the fronts and they are ok on mine.

Protech

I've been to see RT this morning and he agrees that they should have done this so he's going to send em back to Protech and see what they have to say.

On my 280i I had some fitted all round, with new springs, by a TVR specialist.

A few days later there was a big bang at the back, and things felt a bit floppy.
Got home, and found that the top damper mounting nut was off and the damper was flapping about. irked

And the best bit - They are FOC smile So to Mr Thorpe & ProTech a BIG thumbup

Just need to get em back on the car, torque up the Hub nut, refit the wheels should have about 5 minutes to spare before Wednesdays run scratchchin maybe I'd better take a toolkit

Breaking news. The technical director has left protech, so don't expect much help/advice from them from now on. Can't see them lasting long without him.
