You may recall that a couple of weeks ago my drivers side window fell off its perch, and I thought I'd fixed it. rolleyes

There is a small piece of channel that an arm of the window mech with a 'mushroom' on the end runs up and down. The edges of the channel are folded over to retain the mushroom. This is what keeps your window on an even keel.

Over the years your channels and mine are quietly festering away, despite being greased. Eventually the mushroom comes out of the channel, and there's your problem.

Here is the offending item, with the two welded-on bolts, fitted with 10mmm nyloc nuts which hold the channel onto the outer face of the inner doorskin.

Some pics:

I'm going to have to get a new one made up. frown

Graham,

What size is the profile of the steel? The profile looks like a channel I have at work. If its the same or you can get away with it - you can have as much as you want of it.

Cheers

As long as I don't break anything at Rockingham, I'll have some spare time weekend after, your welcome to pop over and I'll give you a hand to make a new one.

Ok, so here's my crappy drawing with measurements.

If anyone can make one I will pay a good price for it. smile

The steel is about the same gauge as a decent quality book shelving upright (the thing you slot the brackets into).

I stupidly threw out all my 'bits and pieces' that I could have made one from when I moved house. frown

Sorry the scan isn't brilliant.
Since half the lines haven't come out..rolleyes

22mm measurement is INSIDE channel width. All other figures are EXTERNAL.

15mm and 20mm are to bolt/screw centre point to end of channel.

Like the use of perspective there. Post-modernistic influences, or is it more Lowery?
Bit more colour would have been nice, perhaps a vase of flowers too...

Hi Graham,

I have this which appears to be about the right size. Def 25mm across and 22mm inside. What do you think? I can send this to you today if its OK.

Cheers Shaun

You want to send it to me 1st, and I'll weld some studs onto it.

Also do we know what goes in the slot.

Well, what can I say fellas...overwhelmed by your generosity. cry
That channel seems ideal.

It's a sort of 'mushroom' on the end of part of the window mech scissor arrangement that runs up and down within the piece of channel, and because the channel has rotted away a little along the folded over edges, then the mushroom can pull itself out.

If you guys can work something out, I would be most grateful, and I will buy you some beers...at BBWF, if not before.

Just let me know if you're able to come up with a finished article.
Many thanks - Graham. thumbup

Hi Graham / Leigh,

Sorry I forgot to check my mail at home before I left out for work this morning. I have temp changed my profile to my work e-mail address so if you could mail me again I could get the steel out today for you.

Cheers

Hi Graham,

If you get stuck for the welding I've got Arc & Mig welders and I'm not too far from you.

If I can be of any assistance let me know.

P.S. Away Sun / Mon trying to flog the Stylus...

Many thanks Simon.

I wasn't far from yours this evening, but on my way home from working in Lincolnshire all day, so a bit tired.

I'll be heading down to Rockingham this weekend.

Good luck selling the Stylus. biggrin

- Hope to get across for a natter soon though.

Hi Graham,

Looks like the stylus has a new guardian, a bloke in Basildon is so keen he asked me to go the showground on Saturday night so he can have first refusal before anyone else sees it on Sunday.

Fingers crossed.... cry selling my first child, Oh well have a wedge now biggrin

As its galvanised, I'm going to put some self locating studs in, should do the same job,
As its not a good idea to weld galvanised stuff, as it can kill you.

No problem, if they don't work, then I'll make one out of mild steel sheet.
