I thought these brakes were from the old Jag XJ6 and parts were still readily available from motor factors. Someone more knowledgable will be along soon! Alex

For refurbishment try here

Company: Classicar Automotive
Address: Unit A, Alderley Road, Chelford, Cheshire, SK11 9AP
Telephone: 01625 860 910
Email: salesclassicbrakes.co.uk

May also be worth trying Brakes International who have shops in Rochdale & Bolton http://www.brakesint.co.uk/ Go to the 'Shop Now' and select Make, Model etc. They do seem to list them at £62 a side (this is without the hadbrake parts) I guess this needs VAT adding on. Cheers Steve

I used them. Very good quality of work and service at a fair price.

thanks all - local Jag specialist & breaker (Jagbreaker.com in Radcliffe) did me a set at a good price and I would recommend them if anyone needs Jag-related parts new or S/H - ask for Ben.

I now have a pair to sell if anyone needs to recon a pair - I will also get a price from Brakes International to recon them.

Useful thread this one, am I correct in assuming that the discs and pads are also the same as the XJS?

Thanks,
Chris

Yes, but to aid braking would suggest to uprate the pads. FIRST FRONT then rear, as upgrading rear only could result in serious problems of the rear trying to overtake the front of the car while braking hard.
Brands: Ferodo, Mintex and I also used Green Stuff.

chaps who are fitting the new calipers for me have said that replacement is not as easy as the 'bible' suggests....nearside wasn't too bad but the offside had to be dismantled in situ as far as I can gather and took nearly 3 hours to remove with much wailing and gnashing of teeth..then the handbrake cable undid itself from the handbrake and then.....

I must admit it hasn't been easy at all! The diff is now sitting on the ground adjacent to the car. Which finally allowed me to remove the calipers.

Unfortunately a couple of the retaining bolts rounded a treat so I need to source a couple. If anybody has any un-rounded spares I'll throw some beer tokens in your direction.

Thanks,
Chris

I'll see if I can get some from next door,
Anyone know the size, if not will have to see If I still have a spare.
Also they should be drilled for lock wire.

I found if you take the disc's off, then it makes it a lot easier to remove the callipers.
Also if you fancy some more DIY you can get piston and seal kits. this should allow you to re-furbish the old set.

That reminds me I still need to sort mine out. another Job on the to-do list.

Being silly here, but how do you remove the discs without removing the calipers? I'm not a huge fan of working on brakes and I thought the only way to remove the discs was by removing the caliper first?

I'll be getting re-furbed calipers from brakes int so then they'll be nice and shiny (plus they'll probably do a better job on it than I could do). I've just ordered a whole load of parts from TVR car parts. Can't wait to have this thing back on the road! biggrinbiggrin

You still need to take the bolts out of the Callipers, so they are loose. then off the drive shaft's, and the disc's will slip out, with a bit of wiggling. it was a while since I done them on a car with a body on, but as far as I can remember it was not too much of a big deal. The car was on stands also.

Excellent, I'll bear that in mind for next time smile I did intend to measure the bolts last night but failed miserably, so I'll try again tonight.

I've ordered a load of parts, and have next week booked off work to try and get this beasty back on the road and MOTed. I am very excited. (and hoping that the front end is easier to re-bush than the rear!)
