Hi Guys,
Does anyone know the spring rates of a V8 wedge compared to a V6 ?
The bible states the V8 ones are 17% stiffer but the V6 would be the heavier engine, I need to know because have a 350 S2V8 which am investigating turning into a Ford V8 conversion and need to know what poundage the V6 models were.

Although the V8 block is lighter than the V6 block the fulll dresed V8 engine is heavier. The rear of the 350i was originally about 120lb/in but most people these days fit springs considerably stiffer, usually around the 350lb/in mark which in turn leads to strengthening the wishbones and new dampers etc.

You sure? I can see how the V8 crank would weigh more but that would be offset by the cast iron of the V6 heads. Thought I read somewhere (though it could have been TVR publicity blurb rolleyes ) that the V8 was 30lbs lighter but made 30bhp more... or words to that effect.
The V6 also has cast iron manifolds vs. the fabricated steel ones of the V8... hmmm, maybe there isn't much in it!

One thing is for certain, modern engines don't use anywhere near the amount of aluminium that's in the RV8 and its ancillaries. That's one reason why there are so many cracked cylinder heads on recent engines, they aim for the thinnest wall possible...

Does anyone have figures for the rear springs? I have ones on the 350i with a red dab of paint across the coils and was wondering what the rate was supposed to be....

I'm sure Richard Thorpe at RT Racing will know, and will probably happily supply you with the correct ones for the job. smile
