Either the search option is not working or I'm doing something very wrong with it as I can't find any info on recommended touring spares.

I will be taking the car to France for the first time later this summer for a mix of touring and visiting relatives. I know that some of you have taken your cars on some very adventurous trips indeed and wondered if there was a consensus regarding the most common reasons for breakdown failure during extended trips as well as recommendations regarding a sensible spares and tools list to take along bearing in mind I will need to leave some boot space for the other and decidedly better half’s luggage requirements!

I know the legal requirements for car touring in France but being fairly new to Wedge ownership I'm a little unsure as to what makes sense to take along and what sort of issues or problems to expect with an extended road trip. I thought I had seen a list somewhere that someone had put together as a sensible TVR touring kit of spares and tools but now can’t find it. I have checked the ‘Wedge Pages’ as well and it’s not there, so any advice that you guys can give me would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I'm off to Le Mans in June and I'm taking the following:-

1) Complete tool kit including a hammer wink
2) Socket set
3) Lots of cable ties
4) Assortment of jubilee clips
5) Spare ECU
6) Spare AFM
7) Relays
8) 5 gallon container with water anti-freeze mix
9) A few odd rubber hoses
10) An assortment of nuts and bolts
11) Small trolley jack (rather than the TVR supplied push bike stand)
12) Bits of wire, to bodge up electrical things
13) Araldite
14) The all essential warning triangle
15) Full petrol container (obviously not going to rely on the fuel gauge biglaugh )
16) Power steering fluid (unless I have fixed the leak before then)
17) 5 lts 15w 40 engine oil
18) Ratchet straps (you never know wink )
19) Spare spark plugs (good used ones)
20) Full set of HT leads
21) Duck tape, colour unimportant.
22) WD40
23) Jump starter pack
24) Spare water pump and PAS belts (in case one makes a bit for freedom)
25) Theres probably more I haven't yet thought of.....................

Am I confident that it will make it biggrin

Where am I going to put the tent now?

I would take a small toolbox, definately something to be able to fix a broken throttle cable, some spare relays & fuses, wire to be able to jump the petrol pump from the battery, a bit of fuel hose, hose clips, 2 cans of tire repair, bottle of water and some spare fuel.... Just to name a few.
In general but not necessary I also carry: spare fuel pump, spare ignition module, wheel bearings when I didn't trust mine...
And of course the wedge bible and a working multimeter (don't ask why I put it like this). A mobile phone and enough money to fill up as well.
Never broke down on long trips (even from Belgium to the UK), but had my 'occasions' near where I live that helped to understand what I would take for piece of mind.

Others will probably come along and list the remaining parts of a complete wedge and workshop ;-)

Nylon rope is quite handy for all sorts of things - even impromptu towing.

I keep my tools in a tool roll which can be squished into otherwise unusable parts of the boot. If you're really desperate then take out the driver's side boot liner panel - you get an extra 5l of storage!

Don't forget that a new regulation in France that a flourescent gilet (waistcoat) be available in the cabin for use in case of a breakdown.

Does a flourescent green "Borat"-style mankini count???

If the car makes it there, then you will find a stall in Houx selling Wedge spares wink

I'm not to fussed about breaking down on the way back, as long as I don't arrive at the camp on the back of a beaver-tail!
