Would there be any adverse effects if I fitted 255/60/15 tyres on my j7 (205) rims, Usual reason they are Cheap!

I am assuming that the standard 400SE rims are 7J.
My car was origionally supplied with 205's at teh front, and 225's at the rear. I upgraded to 225's all round. the improvment on cornering and handling was noticeable.
There may be a requirement to inform your insurance company though, but I believe they do fit

It will change the speedo rating as 225/50 is the 225 size that TVR fitted. If you poodle about, not much difference. If you start to push it, the tyres are a little too big for the wheel and this can cause either the tyre to roll under or a reduced contact patch due to ballooning when additional air pressure is added to try and counteract the tyre rolling.

They fit, as I recently had Toyos put on my 7J rims. I have not had any problems so far.

400s have 7.5 rims as standard. The doc has a 350i which is on 7" rims. The 225/60s may rub (high likelihood.) Bets to go for a 205/55, same as front of Griffs. Jonathan

Do you mean 225 or 255? 255 won't fit properly. 225 are a little on the wide side but should be OK, you will need to do the sums to work out how much the rolling radius has changed by to see how much your speedo will be affected.

Sorry, I misread Docs original post. Mine runs 225/50s NOT 255/60s.

Peter, he is proposing to change from 205/60s to 255 or 225/60s. It's a lot bigger dia for a 350; I wouldn't do it.

It makes a big difference whether he's talking about 225 or 255 though! 255 is just not going to work. 225 might be OK if you don't mind increasing the rolling radius by 10mm or so, its a significant change but might be acceptable (depending on wheel clearance, speedo accuracy etc).

I quite agree but for the 350 a 225/60 is not acceptable on clearance grounds alone, never mind the 255 option (which I think is a typing mistake anyway - it says 225 in the title.)

sorry chaps I did mean 225 they would be 10mm side wider than the 205 origianls with the slight increase in dia.

Ps. my speedo is 10mph out anyway.

Forget them and get a good set of 205/55s.
