further to my other query about my 1984 350i, the engine number does not match the original docs, and from what i can make out (not easy to read through all the pipework/exhausts etc) it is stamped:
9.25:1 CR
45123223

from a published table of numbers this appeasr to be from a mid-70's 3500 P6 which were 10.25 CR, so I could be misreading the CR number, or it could be an export spec? but I suppose since so many parts are interchangeable this engine could be one of many variations spec.-wise and may have been built up to a totally different spec. ??

So it's had an engine change..need to determine the spec

Are there any doc's in your history?

yes lots of docs but no record of an engine change...so I suppose I won't be able to determine spec without taking it apart...so maybe a dyno run might be an option to see what the curves are like. Are there dyno runs at wedge fest same as the griff growl?

Sounds like my engine, a bit of a 'Triggers broom'

Low compression RR carb. bottom end, with mildly gas flowed pulse-air heads and EFI, all from different engines and eras!

Is it on carbs or EFI?

Efi - goes like a rocket and revs right up to the line.

That's nice - a P6 engine with EFi.

You could have a cylinder pipetted to measure the compression ratio. Or you can get a rough measure by using a compression gauge.

I think the American spec P6's were 9.75:1? But maybe it's a UK spec one with SDi heads and a thicker head gasket, again leading to a below 10:1 ratio.
