Gents,
Is there an obvious way to tell if the diff is the limited slip type or not.
Mine is a series one and probably has a standard diff.
I wanted to change the diff oil whilst I'm doing some work on it and want to get the correct type OF oil. The SH Bible gives different spec oil for each diff type.

Regards,
BBT.

The easiest way I know of without needing knowledge of the diff is to jack up the back of the car and spin one wheel, if it has an ordinary diff in it the other wheel will turn in the opposite direction. If it has a slipper it will turn in the same direction.

LS one will have a tab with power-lock on it also.

Thanks,
Checked it out tonight, wheels rotate in opposite direction and no tab so looks like standard diff. Will change oil and hopefully get rebuilding this weekend.

Not sure I agree with Daft Lad..

I believe it will allow a limited amount of slip before it locks..

So if you turn one side and have a friend hold the other then after a few turns (or half etc..) then it should lock up and both sides turn..

The clutch plates inside allow a limited amount of slip - hence the name LSD.
