Should the fan be on from start up even when the engine is cold?
Its a 1984 Tasmin with the ford V6 engine, it just doesnt seem right to me.
If not then what should I be looking at. Thanks in advance folks

When I bought my wedge it had an ajustable knob that lets you set the turn on temperature. Perhaps you gave yours a bump (if you have one) and set it to turn on cooler?

Has a previous owner fitted a fan override switch? or maybe just linked out the otter switch?

I'd go with this, or the contacts ar welded closed in the Otter switch. Switch is (usually) on the radiator somewhere; pull the wires off and see if the fans stops.

does your car use the upright radiator in the enginebay or the one in the nosecone?

the one in the enginebay uses originally a viscous fan driven from the waterpump, not an electric one.

You will have to excuse my ignorance, its not my car im just trying to get it running properly for a friend of mine.

Indeed that is correct. smile

I replaced the two unreliable electric fans in my upright-radiatored 280 with a viscous one from a Capri 3 litre...cost 15 quid and no more electrical gremlins or overheating...except when the fanbelt snapped. irked

I'd forgotten the 280 engine uses a viscous fan. It's purely mechanical so when the engine is cold (and off!) you should be able to spin the fan by hand without the belt slipping on the pulley.
