Thank you
it was love at first sight;
although first sight consisted of the pictures on the ad.
I have broken every rule in the TVR buying book and bought it unseen. I booked a trailer (Nick at Essex trailer services 07813 521056 @ 65p a mile, cracking service) and the first I saw of it in the flesh was when it was dropped off at my work yesterday afternoon.
Luckily for me it's a good'un

Well done. Great car, and always looked after (owner before me was an absolute perfectionist).
Made 107db at 4,000rpm at 2005 BBWF.
Incidentally, I was caught in one of the worst rain storms ever in this country , in which local villages were flooded and severely damaged.
I had to park up for 30 minutes because driving was impossible. THE CAR DIDN'T LET A DROP OF WATER IN ! Must be some kind of record.
It also has at least 8.5j wheels.

Thanks Graham
Chris has been very helpful as well and the car is better than I expected from his desription.
The wheels set it off perfectly and are very deep dished. Your written notes remain in the history file by the way and very useful they are too! particularly the oil recommendation, although I'm not sure if that's synthetic or mineral?

I think most people use a more 'old-fashioned' oil for the RV8, though TVR seem to suggest fully synthetic after the first few thousand miles, but at any rate needs to be more like a 20/50 rather than 'thinner' oils designed for tight modern engines.
Worth doing a search on here, as the subject is much-discussed. My 400 is due an oil change, but last time RT racing did it for me and I forgot to ask what they used
I sold the car at around the 80,000 mark, so she hasn't done many miles since.
...Never had any trouble with the injection though.
It would be interesting to see how much she makes on the R/R with a carb fitted, compared to 'standard' NCK 3.9
The car WAS heavy on fuel before...much worse than my present car, which continues to surprise me as far as mpg goes.

Agree on the oil.
Re the carb:
I've had a 4.3 Chim and a 4.3 Big Valve Chim (rare beast). The standard 4.3 was a little juicy and the BV drank like a fish!
The 390SE however is proving to be a lot more economical than both. I did ask Chris about this and he felt that the injection system ran very rich for quite a long time from cold. Certainly from my own experience of various early systems a 'poorly' injection system is a lot less efficient than a well set up carb, and there's an awful lot of ailing Lucas systems out there. My car has a manual choke and I quite like having the added control it gives me.
I also recall the constant cycle of repairs i.e. Air flow meter needs clean-up, 02 sensor faulty, stepper motor sticking, ECU playing up, Temp sensor faulty etc. then back to the start again. Perhaps I was just unlucky with the cars I had but this one being set up the way it is appeals to me greatly.
Having never driven a 390SE before I cannot guage how the power output compares to an injected car. What I CAN say (having driven some fairly exotic stuff over the years) it is a VERY quick car, particularly in the mid range, and certainly quicker than the 951 S I've just moved on from..
And I can not keep out of the bloody thing

I've had this discussion with Richard and he's firmly in the mineral oil 20/50 camp.
Maybe my imagination but the engine sounds quieter & oil pressure looks better.
Certainly looks better than the watery 20W/40 that was in it.
