It started as a weekend project and ended up taking me three years, but today I finished installing the Hella cruise control system from the SD1, to the 390!
Amazingly, it worked first go. It's a bit lurchy below about 35mph, but who wants to 'cruise' at that speed?
At sensible velocities it's perfectly smooth.
The other thing that I'd been itching to find out was how accurate or otherwise my speedo is. Y'see, a couple of 'Fests back, I had Roger the Tallbloke in the passenger seat with his satnav and it seemed to suggest we were travelling at velocities a fair bit higher than I believed to be true. Now I have my own Garmin and, with the cruise keeping things perfectly steady, I'm chuffed to report that my speedo agrees with the satnav all the way to 80mph. One would not like to incriminate oneself by stating figures higher than that on the public highway, so with the help of a mate with a very long driveway (OK, an airfield runway) I was able to attain 97 mph at an indicated 100... 3% error is fine by me! It does suggest that my tacho is inaccurate (although I've always claimed that I'd rather believe that than a TVR speedo, however I am happy to eat my words).
All of this presumes that Mr. Garmin is telling the truth though; how can we be certain that the satnav system doesn't add on a bit to make us think we're going faster than we really are...? [/conspiracytheory]
With so much going on in the cockpit, it seemed like a good time to install the new alloy switchgear that I knocked-up the other week... pic to follow when I find my camera.
Anyway, it's good to be out and a-Wedging again; now who's up for a Wedgefest?

Hi Ian.
About blinkin time too !
We'll have to meet up somewhere.
About the satnav:
I use my garmin all the time as a speedo, and I find it really accurate, except when stamping on the loud pedal, when it can't keep up.
It will also, as you probably know, tell you your maximum speed on the trip...which can be a little erm...disconcerting
I delete that incriminating figure after every trip.

IAN im glad you have found out your speedo is a bit out. Cause i thought it was mine, when i followed you down to the BBW, i asked you what speed we were doing as we went past ferrybridge power station. You replied about 70mph. Glad i know mine is not the 50mph out i thought it was cause i was reading nearly 120 LOL wink wink.
