I've been noticing the clutch pedal on my 350i has been starting to feel a bit spongey and the biting point now very low on the clutch pedal, although changing gear with no problem (been to the pistonheads meet driving at Kingston Lacey, Dorset today with no problems). Just checked the fluid reservoir when I've got home and needless to say it is pretty much empty. Had a quick look at the master and slave cylinder and connections with no obvious signs of fluid seepage - is there anything else obvious I should look at before topping up the fluid and seeing what happens?

Thank you,

Chris

If the master cylinder is leaking you will normally see traces of fluid which has run down the pushrod and onto the pedal arm. If that's the problem, its possible to replace the seals, but I personally would buy a new unit - the bore may be too worn for example.

Try filling and bleeding through as a first stage, and keep an eye on the level - keep some fluid in the car.

Annoyingly, when my m/cyl started to leak, the fluid didn't run down the pedal and drip onto the carpet, it merely dripped straight off the cyl into the soundproofing under the carpet. As it still worked I just kept topping it up... you can imagine the rest.
