Nurburgring - it made it!
Discussion
Morning all,
Just letting you know that the wedge managed to make it to the 'ring, complete 4 laps and return. Obviously taking the old TVR resulted in a few dramas, and we had to stop at the roadside/petrol stations more than once for "running repairs" but thankfully nothing too major.
Unfortunately the HT lead gave up 30 miles from home on the return, so I had to get it delivered via AA truck back home
Anyway, I now have a long list of repairs (cooling, ignition, gearbox linkage bushes, and so on...)
I highly recommend the Falken 912 tyres, as they seem to hardly slip even on a damp nordschleife, and I was surprised as to how stable & predictable the car felt in the corners. Under braking it's not so good, and brake fade was fairly common. I understand it's possible to fit mondeo calipers & discs so I'll look into this as a future upgrade.
Other future work will be to sort out the springs & shocks, and to setup the overall geometry of the suspension. Although did some of the racers start using rose-joints on the trailing arms? Does anyone know what benefits these provided?
Hopefully I'll have some photos to share later.
Thanks,
Chris

Chris,
Nice one.
I get the impression even on my SEAC that both cooling and brakes (yes, they're AP's) are still operating near their limit.
I can offer a cooling upgrade, not exactly cheap but I like headroom and to improve on the original factory fitment.
I'm having a Radtec ali rad fitted with large single high output SPAL 'sucker' fan fitted together with matching cowling, the latter being something the factory forgot about.
Make sure you have a hi-flow thermostat.
An external cooler will also help keep things cool for any spirited driving. I'm having mine replaced with a new one with AM fittings. I don't like jubbilee clips and rubber hosing for oil cooler pipers.
Just my 2p - your mileage may vary.

Well done that man, just shows you dont need a 911 Uber Germ box to enjoy the "Ring".
As regards the cooling have to agree with Transmitter man. I have the largest Radtec ally rad that can be fitted (depth is a important as width & height) Pacet or SPAL sucker fan (as big as you can fit) but MUST have the rear fibreglass cowling. Also fit an overide switch so you can switch it on early which can be a godsend if you meet traffic or are just parked up for a while. Hi flo thermostat opening at (I think) 78degrees?).
Brakes go for the best, largest you can afford but remember they will never be as good as a modern hot hatch regardless! Learn to drive without relying on them is what Jaclie Stewart once told me.
As regards suspension might be worth looking at Redline adjustable shocks all round and uprated springs (possibly 320 rears and 280 fronts) have a word with Richard Thorpe at RT Racing in Sheffield.
Good luck and keep us posted.
