Just thought I would share the results of my attempts at a lower half repaint on my 280i - all done in my garage using a HVLP gun and single pack base with 2 pack clearcoat. I am very pleased with the reults.

Looks fantastic - I'd be interested to know how you did it because I thought the paint and finish had to be done in an oven...

Did you use 2 guns?

I have 3 guns - one for primers - one for base coats and one for clearcoats. I use a HVLP set up supposedly less over spray and less paint used - the only draw back is that they are very hungry for air - I have two 50 ltr compressors that I use in tamdem .
If you are using single packs and two pack paints they will cure without an oven or any special process. They cure by solvent flash off or chemical reaction as with the 2 pack you use a hardner that cures the paint. The only draw back with 2 pack is that it gives off dangerous fumes - but you can use either an air fed mask or you can buy a mask that will take out the fumes - this is the cheaper option only about £20.
You can get by with only one gun as long as you clean them well and make sure you dont contaminate your paint or clearcoat. Preparation I found is the key and getting the spray gun / paint viscosity right.
Very satisfying when it comes out with a mirror finish.
