My windscreen wiper packed up on Saturday (yes, in that torrential downpour!). How easy is it to swap the motor, or am I best just taking it to a dealer? Cheers, Steve.
Steve, depends what is wrong with it. The motor is fairly easy to get to, under the passenger side dash. If it's a problem with the wheel box then it's going to be a dash out and possibly heater box. If it's a problem with the wheel box teeth you could try rotating it by 180 deg, as it only uses half the teeth. Cheers Steve EIt's awkward but easy once you know how!! You get access by lying in the footwell undo the nuts from the engine bay. They hold a strap round the motor. Rotate the body through 180 degrees and then remove the cover. I found that a gas meter cupboard key was a perfect fit for some of them. Once the cover is removed then undo the nut holding the connection to the rod that drives the wheelbox at the wiper end. The motor should come out.
Reassemble it without the connection to the wiper to see if it works. For the record there are 3 basic motors 14W 16W and 27W. Ours is the 16W and is shared with TR7s Stags and Scimitars In my case the windings burnt out and I discovered it was impossible to get a overhauled one with the park switch in the correct position. I got an exchange one from Moss (£88) but retained the Wedge gearwheel as it’s 170 degrees TR7 is about 130. I thought that I would be able to relocate the park switch but I haven't managed it yet or bothered but will be soon.
So don't let it leave your hands easily. It will be either the brushes or the windings burnt out like mine.

Thanks for all your assistance. I managed to get to the motor without taking all the dashboard out (which is the suggestion in the Steve Heath book!).
After removing the brackets and a bit of tussling, I managed to get the motor out, but not with the desired effect:
The bit that's broken, I subsequently found out, is called "the rack" - only £14 from Clever Trevor. TIP FOR OTHERS - take the wiper blade off before trying to pull the "rack" through its housing (to allow the axle thing to spin freely!).
Managed to get the wheel housing out from behind the dash with a bit of wiggling. I taped a bit of bell wire to it before pulling it out to help relocating putting it back.
I reassembled it all, and tested it before refitting to the car, to find out the motor is on its last legs! So to the point of this posting - where can I get the motor refurbished?
Cheers
Steve
