Howdo.

So plan A isnt goer: the works motor club declined my request to use their 4 poster ramp and support beams. Bum. Litigation culture knackered that one.

How have people removed the bodies off their cars?

I gather 8 strong blokes can get the job done, but I was thinking of mechanised means (8 WHOLE friends?!? My god, wheres the phone book?).

Brap-Brap has a excellent photo essay of how not to do it by yourself. Something about just finding the tipping point and adding one more wedge. smile

From prior readings, lots of "wedges" and spreaders and blocks and tackles will do it but strong friends are even better.

PS/ Brap-Brap - Seriously, no offense intended, I've really enjoyed your thread and I'm almost inspired to tackle my 280... although I just restored a mighty Dodge Warlock pick-up truck for #1 son and I'm thinking lots of CI (or 580i like TR7&TVR has) might be just right.

Easily done with one person, an engine crane and a few beers help to calm the nerves.

Lift one end up a bit with the crane, support on something solid (ahem), lift the other end up a bit more, have a look round to see which important wires and pipes are now stretched to breaking point and detach, lift other end a bit more, etc. Proceed until one end is suitably high enough then support on sturdy bits of wood and decorators trestles smile Now simply roll out go-cart from underneath. If necessary let any unnecessary air out of your tyres which may be complicating proceedings and making your go cart too tall to come out!

This unprofessional advice is not to be followed by anyone, if you do, you're very silly and it's not my fault if you break stuff!

Brave or foolish biggrin

I've got a 4 post lift now so I won't be doing it that way again! Not that I intend to do it all again for many a year!

Thinking laterally why not do it the other way around:

1. Jack up the entire car and support with axle stands.

2. Support the body rear (under the boot) and front (errm, under the front wheelarches after removing front wheels?)

3. Remove securing bolts

4. Let the chassis down bit by bit.

Now then Ian, how's it going?! It's actually now my main business (with a couple of other sidelines)! I've left the seedy world of IT contracting and am now making furniture from my workshop at home! Cars regularly fight oak for garage space!

Blimey! I've got mates, yeaaahhhhhhhhhh!

OK fellas, thankyou to you all for offering to pitch in. I've got to sort out the plan, then I will be in touch. I'm currently thinking that 3 engine cranes and certified lifting slings are the way to go...
