Even on the V8's the handbrake lever is very close to the gearstick on fifth and it's fairly susal that the lever is bent over at about 10-20 degrees away from the gearstick to give enough room. If you are going to do this it's best to take off the centre leather bit over the transmission tunnel because you can then make sure that the lever, when bent over, still works the handbrake switch correctly, or else the light won't go out reliably.

Don't remind me .. I had to do a hill start at a T junction in Phil's SEAC on Sunday ..

Imagine trying to sctatch you knee, whilst controlling the clutch and accelerator and looking for traffic .. oh almost forgot .. as the handbrake is nearly useless rolling backwards.. no fun at all.

Why oh why did TVR decide to not install a proper handbrake on the SEAC.. I'll never know.

As much as I want one, I don't know where I'd put a 5th gear - I'm up against the brake handle now in 3rd & 4th now smile

The gear levers were modified at the factory, basicly allowing the lever to enter the car in the 'correct' position, you could modify what you have, I'm sure this would improve matters, but I would recommend you also fit a 'quickshift' type kit, its basicly a spacer between the gear lever assy and gearbox, makes the change a little heavier, but shorter throws and more precise.

A quick flea bay search, this is the first one I found.... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ESCORT-MK1-MK2-CAPRI-2-8i-SI... if it's a good price or not I don't know.

Regards,

Chris.
