Hey everyone! smile

My uber-generous uncle is giving me his 420SE (long story). He was in the middle of refurbing the Oz split rims when his circumstances changed, so as such they're currently in bits and stuff.

He's offered to buy me a 2nd set of alloys to get it on the road while I finish refurbing the Oz's, but despite spending an hour or two searching this forum, and looking elsewhere on the net, I can't really find any definitive answers as to the required offsets etc. He mentioned he'd heard on here that Azev alloys may be suitable, and I'm currently fancying the 15" Azev Type A wheels http://www.globalautoshop.com/wheels/azev.htm, but I really need to be sure that they'll fit before letting him pay for them!

The Oz wheels I have at the moment have these details on them: 7Jx15H2 also E.34 and SR.50.60.5M. I'm guessing the E.34 refers to what is now commonly called the ET measurement? But I'm utterly lost as to what the PCD is and/or whether the Azev wheels will fit...

The info i've found on another thread here states a PCD of 112mm, but I'm not sure if this applies to the 420SE...

Also, just to confuse matters even more, I've just spoken to someone at RTECshop.com and he's said that the old TVR's have a larger centre bore and it's really difficult to get wheels to fit?? argh!

The A and AS look like they'll be fine. It sounds like your current wheels are not SEAC wheels but are 350SE wheels; the 350SE wheels initially look the same but are narrower at 7" wide whereas you're better off with 8" wide rims.

The hub is a Granada hub with the German PCD, i.e. a 100mm dia circle with the 12mm dia studs placed around the outside. Can't remember the centrebore off the top of my head but can find out later if no one else posts.

245/45/16 is a nice tyre size and sits well on an 8x16 wheel, a size that TVR fitted to the odd SEAC from new.

Congratulations on the new car! Jonathan

Thanks for the info, what you're saying about the 350SE wheels makes sense, my uncle tells me the 'original' 420SE's had a 420SEAC engine in them, but with the body of the 350SE-era cars, ie. no massive spoiler and the front isn't the single-piece moulded part that the SEAC's have. The 8x16 wheel sounds like a good idea, I was just going with the same size as the existing Oz wheels to try and narrow down the room for error!

And forgive me for being a bit thick, but does "100mm dia circle with the 12mm dia studs around the outside" mean I should actually be looking for 5x100 or was I right with the 5x112 PCD?

So, the only other thing missing is the centre bore size (i think it might be the spigot size), if anyone can help...?

I guess that some of what your uncle said has got lost in translation, so to speak. There are about 10 different wedge body shapes of which the 420SE has it's own (unique) body shell; this shell is sort of a cross between the 350i and the 400SE.

Back on topic: You were correct initially the PCD is 112, i.e. 6mm radius of one stud + 100mm circle + 6mm radius of the stud on the other side.

Try contacting the rev or cantus for the centre bore.

Just measured mine - 68~69mm centre bore for the hole centre. Not easy to measure accurately due to the wheel edge.

Excellent, thanks! smile

That's more than accurate enough for now, I've literally just this minute got back upstairs after putting the OZ wheels in a mates car, as he has a digital micrometer-measurement-thingy-gadget at work and has offered to measure them precisely.

Additionally, I've spoken to a 'seemingly knowledgeable' chap at DemonTweeks who's suggested a custom made set of CompoMotive 'MO' 5-spoke wheels with the stats - 16x7J, PCD:5x112mm, ET:34mm http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDeta... He was having trouble finding 16" in 8J, and I don't really want to go to 17x8J for fear of rubbing etc. (unless you guys are confident I'll be absolutely fine with 17x8J?)

The price for those CompoMotives was £789.63 exc Tyres, £1147.79 inc tyres (Toyo's)...

Look at IFX Image wheels - http://www.imagewheels.co.uk/large_wheel_pages/ifx... - not the yellow ones. These seem to match those on the original brochure for my car - 450SE.

I suggest getting the 8J x 15 wheels (standard on 400SEs)...look much meatier and will definitely fit without rubbing.

Don't let people sell you what they happen to stock.

These OZ wheels on the back of a 390SE I previously owned are 8 1/2 J and fitted perfectly too, with 225/15 tyres...Toyo T1R being the tyre of choice.

16s

16s look nice and fill the arches, but IMO 17s are a bit too big and require too low a profile tyre, which doesn't suit the Wedge...others may disagree. smile

I think this is my favourite Wedge...'Cirks' gorgeous 450SE with equally gorgeous wheels. I believe they're 16" Tuscan Racer OZs. cloud9

Yes, the guy at Demon T will have to work much harder if he wants your business, &j is too narrow for a 420SE.

What are the hubs, if that is the correct term? Are they from a Ford Granada? If they are, then there are off-the-shelf wheels available. In my humble opinion though, the more modern convex style wheels do not look right.

By the way, my 18" oxigen alloys are available.

FWIW my 450SE runs 16 x 8 OZ split rims and is shod with 225/45 16 rubber and I can assure you that both fronts rub the inner wheel arches but only on full lock and both rears rub the outer arches when travelling at speed over humps! but otherwise are no problem.
As an aside I do know where there is a set of very good set of original 400SE 15" OZ split rims if your interested.
