Guys, the car's just failed the MOT again on emissions (HCs). It originally failed a few months ago and I got the carbs rebalanced and sorted out. The CO has come right down but the HCs are still 50% over (1800ppm vs 1200pass). Thoughts please .....I'm meant to be at Cadwell on Monday... The car could do with a good run which should help but I'm not sure it will take the HCs down by 50%

Book it in for a certain time, and spend the hour before hand giving it a good blast, worked for me before with different cars.

Change the oil. Make the crank breather waste onto the floor or temporarily block it if that doesn't help.

Thanks for the replies. Fortunately, I got the garage down the road from the MOT place to let it run for half an hour then I took it for a *cough* *cough* "brisk" drive down the local main A road.... Seemed to do the trick - came down from 1800ppm to 680ppm smile

So, off to sunny (I hope) Cadwell on Monday!

Next time round, after the blast, take the air filter out just before you drive into the MOT station.
