I blasted this and assumed it was standard, but my other flywheel is actually much heavier and has loads more meat on the rear!

Could this one be lightened / balanced?!

The ones for automatic gearboxes are different. Could be that you have one of those and it cannot be used on a manual. Weight difference is due to that an auto has the torque convertor attached to the flywheel.

I doubt it, if it has the bolts and dowels for a clutch pressure plate...

Looks very similar to my flywheel that i got lightened a couple of months ago, did'nt get any pics though unfortunately.

And on the back you can see where they have drilled the assortment of holes to balance it up.

I vote lightened + balanced thumbup

It's definitely a manual one, you can see the area where the clutch has been running! :-)

I'm kind of thinking it's modified as well, but only on the rear. The angle of the outside on the center "boss" is too steep looking, and the other heavier flywheel I've got hasn't got any balancing holes.

There are also small holes to the rear of each dowel, part of the removal or installation process after machining maybe?

Good plan!

For reference mine was about 12.5 kilos before lightening and 8.5 kilos after

Well I weighed it - 23lb with a 9.5" clutch size. My other 9.5" spec one is 31lb!

Huh! The plot thickens!

(safe to assume TVR lightened their flywheels?)

lol, "I just happened to be photographing a flywheel hanging in my garage one evening when a relevent thread appeared on PH"! :-)

Your one seems to have a fair amount of balancing holes in the front face?
