Steve Hall 1955-2009
Discussion
It is with sadness that I'm announcing the death of long time wedge owner and personal friend Steve Hall.
After a two year battle with cancer Steve passed away last Friday morning at Wakefield Hospice where his close family were with him throughout. Fellow TVR owners and friends are invited to his funeral tomorrow, Friday the 13th November, 2pm, at Wakefield Crematorium, West Yorkshire. Following the funeral, there will be beer and sandwiches, followed by more beer, at the Hotel St. Pierre, Newmillerdam, Wakefield WF2 6QG.
Steve was a man with a sharp wit, an ascerbic humour, and a discerning taste for the good things in life, especially cars. As well as his original 420 wedge with genuine NCK prepared motor, Steve latterly owned a 1974 Jenson Interceptor or "Gentlemans Conveyance" as he called it. He crashed a couple of twin turbo Subaru estate "street sleepers" in recent years too.
After the first of these mishaps, I lent Steve back the Scorpio Cosworth he had sold me the year before. I travelled down to the wedgefest in my kevlar waistcoat when I got out of hospital with my busted vertebra in his second Subaru a few years back. He gave up the opportunity to go in his wedge to make sure I could attend. That's the kind and generous sort of bloke he was. I am proud to remember him as my friend.

Your thoughts and expressions of sympathy are appreciated. Thank you all. We gave Steve a good send off this afternoon, with many family members and friends. A pistonheads.com stickered MX5 arrived from Kidderminster, driven by Anna Singleton, who I last met at BT&P three years ago.
Steve lulled us into the service with Elton John, and sent us on our way with Monty Python's 'Bright Side of Life', his good humour and strength of character were with him to the last. An inspiration to us all.
We need a fair valuation on Steve's very nice black 7L MkIII Jensen Interceptor with red leather interior. I'll start the bidding at £13800. Ideas?

Hi everyone, I think it's about time I introduced myself properly!
I'm James, Steve's nephew. He offered me his 420SE a couple of months before the end, partially because he wanted it to stay in the family instead of being sold to "some random tw@t of a stranger who'd run it into the ground", but also because he was well aware that I'd drooled over almost every inch of it while I was growing up.
It's unfortunately been off the road for about 2 years now, as Steve had just started to refurb the original Oz split rims when things went tits up with his health. Rog, the OP, is very kindly lending me a set of wheels so I can get it moving & MOT'd etc, while I finish refurbing the Oz's... Hopefully it's just in need of some TLC; the engine seems to be fine except for a water leak that seems to be from the pipe coming out the bottom of the radiator. From what I can see, the chassis just has surface rust on it in places, nothing too penetrating *crosses fingers*.
I look forward to getting to know y'all better, and hopefully making it to some meetings, not to mention getting my hands dirty with a car I love (I've had a company car for a few years now, so seriously missing the fun of 2 seats, RWD and no roof!! Thanks for all the condolences too, very much appreciated.
Talk soon.

James,
Welcome to the Wedgedom, I'm sure Steve is watching over you; and is very proud of you.
Good to see you keeping his legacy alive...
Now how much can you drink, and can I buy you a pint at BBWF2010?
Oh, I like to think I can hold my own! Although my usual drink of choice is vodka, but I'll certainly accept a pint if you're offering! And I'd love to get to BBWF2010, I'll have a look around when I've got more time and find out the details of it.Welcome to the Wedgedom, I'm sure Steve is watching over you; and is very proud of you.

Amongst Steve's things, I came across a cap, t-shirt and DVD from BBWF2004, so I'd already decided I'd better get along to the next one to see what it was all about!
It's also an incentive to get the car spotless & running like a dream!Gassing Station | Wedges | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
