Is this the right stuff to put on your soft top after a treatment of Renovo and if so where do you get it?

I went into my local B&Q and the nearest thing i could find was Thompsons Damp Seal (in white). I asked the assistant and he didnt have a clue.

i dunno if it's a good idea (unless someone has done it before?). I work in a builders merchants and we sell that stuff. In my experience, it leaves a wet look sheen on concrete and bricks, so i dunno how it would look on a hood.

If you still want some, Fairalls in Godstone ( get the plug in quick ) near jct6 m25, have got loads of it.

I use Renovo, some people do use Thompson water seal, but i think its transparent. DO NOT use damp seal yet until someone confirms this.

I use Fabsil: pongs a bit at first but wears off eventually. From your friendly local camping shop.

Agree with Wedg1e. I use Fabsil once a year, 2 coats 12-24 hrs apart, water beads on the roof no problems. Was arout £8.00 from local camping shop 2 yrs ago still got half of it left from a 1 ltr bottle.

I have used Thompsons water seal (and Ultra, but I don't recommend it). I wouldn't use damp seal.

I'm actuallly going to start using Fabsil, because the Thompsons stuff only seems to work with light drizzle. Anything heavier and you might as well not bother.

Rich.

Hi Dave,

I Used Renovo + Thompsons Water Seal on the roof of your car last year. I've also done the Griff this year.

Works fine and as you can see it drys OK too. Mack sure the roof is clean first.

Fabsil .. bought 5 litres 6 years ago, and still have enough left in the tin for the forseeable future...

2 coats every 12 months or so is fantastic.

The brick sealer version. On the back of the tin it say's it does ground sheets and sleeping bags etc. Though I would prefer a gore tex sack to a doped one

See thread 'Mr Muscle ...Protecting the Helmet'. Replies I got are varied. I used Astonish carpet machine cleaner, diluted 1:20 water, first and rinsed well in water. Then, when dry used 'Thompson's Water Seal' ( made by Ronseal Tel: 0114 246 7171 or email : enquiry@ronseal.co.uk ).

Some hours after application, I noticed a bubble on hard top. Seems some adhesive had come away. ? cause. Noticed a hole / fray in the area that looked like it had been there a while. But the fabric was not loose before cleaning /waterproofing. Who knows which chemical has caused the separation of fabric from hard top? I will have to try some form of adhesive with nozzle to repair.

BUT pissed down on the hood 2 days after application -beaded lovely and dry as bone after 7 mile drive home. All the best!

I use thompsons water seal on mine, it dries clear and ,lasts considerably longer than Fabsil and is slightly cheaper, its usually kept outside with the masonary at DIY stores.

I used to use Thompsons, but got fed up with the smell.

Now use Renovo waterproofer, no smell at all, and dries much quicker.
