Hi guys...off-topic, but trying to fix a leak and don't know what tool needed to get the stoopid modern-type tap off to change the washer. irked

I was expecting a grub screw, but there's just a recess, and not sure what to stick in there to loose off the tap.

Any ideas ? Cheers.

unfortunately a lot of the modern taps are impossible to repair. I cannot tell from your picture but I know that there are many makes and models that are put together in such a way that you just cannot take them apart.

The structure of the tap is that the outer casing is a cosmetic item and body of the valve fits into the tap from under the base and the grub screw is just to attach the pivoted lever/swivel handle ..I recently swapped a new internal valve into the bath tap (sent under warranty to replace a leaking unit) Adrian@

Thanks all (didn't want to shove the wrong tool in there and knacker up the thread).

Daft thing is....just went upstairs to have another look, and it's STOPPED...after a couple of days leaking. confused

I must have the magic touch. hehe

Anyway, gives me time to dismantle the bloody bath to fix it properly.

I know the feeling.... just spent half the day replacing the toilet dual flush valve because it keeps sticking. Had a few attempts at sorting it out but came to the conclusion it was easier to fit a new one. Wouldn't have minded but it's only 3 years old. Also noticed that the tap on the wash basin is going rusty and that's also only 3 years old. Things may be cheaper but they ain't good quality.

I think they call it 'competition'.
Trouble is, the consumer ends up with ste.

I've lived in the 3rd world on many occasions, and though their fittings are distinctly old school and not always the best quality, at least they are easily fixable, just as things were here before everyone (well, women) started going for the 'studio' look...in other words a heap of crap at an inflated price, and style over function. irked

TVR owners complaining about things breaking down!? More concerned over things lasting than how they look!? Shame on you, go and buy a Golf.

Graham,it is probably a grub screw in that little hole with an allen key head although some use a slot head.Once the handle is off it will be something like a 17mm spanner,so put the ring end on and position it so you can lever the spanner with your fingers and your palm of same hand against the spout length, try not to turn the tap cos you may trigger a leak under neath It will probably want a new tap cartridge but to successfully get the right one you need to know the make of tap other wise the handle wont fit the spline.Looks a bit like a Bristan ceramic disc tap but could'nt be 100%. Farting about with the faulty one is usually a waste of time but i reckon the shaft the the discs fit onto gets worn at the point where it passes through the cartridge body cos it rotates on it,there is usually a small washer and grease in there, maybe pack it if possible with a little PTFE and silicone grease:byebye

Lots of low-voltage bulbs wired in series. If one goes out, they all go out.

No.

Onomatopoeically speaking, the polyunsaturated polytetrafluoroethane and monosodium glutamate in your diribonucleic acid, combined with the polyethyleneterapthalate in your drink bottle and the methylchloroisothiazolinone absorbed through your cranium from your haircare products renders your brain incapable of arranging letters in the correct order biggrin

Which brings me on to hair gel, if I had not used copious amounts of gel in the 80,s in a failed attempt to look like Phil Okey kokie. Would I now be able to find enough hair to encounter the long forgotten dilemma of which side to part it? And in this ‘Blame, Claim’ world, do you think its worth a bash at suing Boots?

I reckon its me brain out growing my hair forcing the cranium up. The hair then sinks down to other places like ear oles and things.
