How much power?
Discussion
You won't get an LS in a Wedge without major chassis modification. Be cheaper to get a knackered Cerb & have it done properly by someone like Steve Heath. Much more viable to put a good 5 litre Griff engine in there or if your dead set on American power the Ford 302 will fit.
Good thread here, ask these guys.....

Not sure how much power a Ford lump will make but the other option would be to find a good 4.6 or 5 litre serp engine & blow it. A good one will get you close to 400 horse. No chassis mods, just bolt it all in......

Get some nice big brakes behind a set of Cerb wheels like this........

Adam Quantrills Supercharged 400SX.
You have to get the stud holes machined as the centres are slightly different.

Ain't quite that simple. You drop a 400 bhp engine into a Wedge and you will be modding the chassis just to hold it together. The gearbox will break very quickly - it's an LT77. Change that to a T5 and it will cost around £2k - been there done that - as you will need a new prop shaft, bellhousing, gearbox, clutch, etc. No you can't use a Griff/Chimaera one as the remote is in the wrong place. The fuel system will need replacing, a different wiring loom is needed. Basically everything will need replacing. As for a SCPOwer system... can't see how it will fit as the Wedge engine bay is a lot smaller than a Griff/Chimaera. I had to do move everything to get the Vortech blower in place and put a huge power bulge in the bonnet. Driveshafts are another weakness.
The chassis will require significant work as it is no where as strong as a Cerb and there are several weakness like the front turrets, diff carriers, engine and gearbox mounts to name a few.
Particular care is also needed with the Aero as the wedge does become light at speed. Its brakes/suspension are not very good and I could go on.
An LS could be made to fit and I may do it if I can't get any more out of the blown Rover V8 but I already have the rest of the car heavily modified so it is a simple drop the engine in.
In other words, the amount of work needed to get a 400bhp wedge reliable is LOTS and most of the car will need upgrading. It can be done but it is a lot of work and expense.
As already stated a 302 or 351 Ford will fit with minor mods. I looked into a modern 4.6 Ford but it is way too wide as is the Chevy engines. I just bought a 95 302 and tranny for mine. Stock it makes 215 horses and 300 ft/lbs. My plan is a reasonable 260 and 295 out of it with some intake and exhaust work and some aluminum heads making it weigh about the same as a rover all aluminum. A 302 can be good for around 350 for 100k, 400hp for less long term reliability.

The rear of the chassis rail will foul with the ls exhaust headers so it would be a big job. Better to tune the rv8, go bigger capacity or use low boost forced induction.
Hmmm didnt think about a supercharger.... Certainly something to think about

Always loved the 450SE shape with its flaired arches. Was it only the SEAC that had the side exit exhausts or have those just been modified?

Remember the basic Wedge design is 30 years old and while it has similarities with a Tuscan, sticking 350 bhp into a Wedge requires a lot of work that isn't needed with a Tuscan if you want the car to be reliable and safe.
Not saying it can't be done but it is resource intensive.

The £3k wasn't for the engine though, it was for the s/c or turbocharger/s.
I've run lots of stock rovers with low boost and standard internals. This is what janspeed used to do a long time ago when 300 bhp was common place. 5 psi gives a very healthy increase in performance, non intercooled. The £3k suggestion would cover the purchase cost of a roterex, centrifugal or a turbo and allow for diy fitment. Plumming it into a stock engine would be relatively straightforward. You would need some sort of management so maybe an emerald or dta but some people already have aftermarket management. Specs and people like that have modern clutches that would easily handle the additional torque. They have a streetable v6 clutch reputed to take 600 hp.
I never broke an lt77 but I did have long legs and it was built by Ken Tomlinson. It needn't be expensive if resourceful and not over ambitious.

Dave,
This UK site gives some interesting info on the different Rover/Chevy/Ford V8 power output combo's v's cost;
http://www.britishamericanengines.co.uk/default.as...
However I'm with the more knowledgeable here when they say the wedge chassis is now 30 years old and would bneed some serious work to making it withstand big power.
