Been out and about in the 400 again ,jobs to do sat/sun (i am still looking on spotted tvrs to see if anybody has seen me, nobody )
Got home, reversing up my drive and noticed that my lights came on whilst i held the gear stick but went of when i let go , the car still kept on reversing .
Tried a couple of time still the same. I have looked back at old threads and on the wedge epistles with no luck

What could the possible problem be ? Whats required to get it fixed ?

thanks
Stephen

The reversing light switch is adjustable, secured by a locknut. It may be possible to screw it in a little further - don't overdo it or the lights will stay on permanently. Access is a swine though, unless you happen to have the exhaust off. It's possible to go in through the top, but again, a pain.

How much from the top would i have remove .
Could i gain access to the switch if the car was jacked up or would it have to be on a ramp

You should be able to get at the switch with the car on ramps. It's up at the top of the tunnel near the gear lever. The problem is getting a spanner on it! Dunno about the 400SE but on the 350/390 you have to get the centre console up a few inches in order to get the gearshift gaiter off. Then you need hands like Gary Glitter to get in there. One thing to watch out for is that you don't snap the wires off the switch otherwise you'll really be cursing... biggrin

Edit: email me your home address so I can get this ECU posted off... smile

This may help you:

Best to undo the 2 bullet connectors before trying to turn the switch body.

Yeah but - after all this time and heat, the wire insulation is really brittle, be careful you don't snap the wires off.

I don't know if you can get a re-plasticising compound to make the plastic soft again?

As a matter of amusement I was watching Tivs of all vintages reversing at various times during TiTT4, and every single car showed a flash of reversing light then nothing, even the later Tuscans. Seems like "they all do that, Sir...".

P.S. If you just need to back into your garage or are on private property you can always use the fog lights - they are brighter anyway ;^)

Christ what a job !
Checked MOT ,August ,so a job I can put off.

Never heard of re-plasticising compound (better buy some as i will have to the job at some time , any clues from where ? Adam your not a re-plastising rep are you).

What fog lights ! had to go and check ,wow I've got some .Never use rear fogs ,now I have found a use for them.

Adam at last I am keeping good company and not letting the side down with a TVR that works properly.( gav buy Germany ,wash your mouth out with soap)

Ian will email my address and also be posting sample and template for the dash both tonight .

cheers
