Can't help much. Other's on here will though.
Someone correct me but when I was fiddling with my distributer I took the rotor arm off. In doing I dislodged the weights so the advance/retard was up the spout. It had to be rebuilt. Apparantly there is a correct way to remove this with out the hassle?
Symptom's were the arm would could be moved but would not return.
Sorry if this is wrong but it happened to me so leave that bit alone.
Standing by to be corrected.

Could be the ingnition amplifier on the side of the distributor has failed.
The coil appears to read 'positive' both sides because the test meter presents no load. Until the ignition amplifier fires, the coil is not earthed. So in effect the voltage passing through the coil looks the same at both 'ends', to the meter. An auto-electrician should know this....
Other possibilities include: the carbon brush in the distributor cap is missing, or not touching the rotor arm; the coil is open-circuit; the air gap on the trigger rotor in the distributor is incorrect or the pickup is duff....

Sortid it
New module on side of the distributor did not do the job , had the old one tested it was bug***d, it turned out to be the pick up in the coil, it runs now but could go again at any time.
But saved by a member of the West Yorshire club this weekend, Richard top man many thanks in advance, who has some distributors spare after having the same problem over the years with wedges and is poping over to sort it this week, top man
This wedge ownership is like bin in a big family
