After I changed the AFM pipe first thing I started the 350i up to warm her up prior to changing the oil. The engine screaches like a banshee when you rev it up - any ideas what the likely culprit is? waterpump?

Cheers

Power steering or waterpump / alternator belt?

Its a new alternator belt because the old one snapped, as it appears to have been rubbing on the swan neck. I topped up ps fluid. I notice quite a lot of rubber "flakes" deposited around the engine bay but I think thats from the old belt and was being flung around by the new one. I will try to tension the belt a bit more when I have regained oil pressure. What is the best way to diagnose the fault if tightening the belt makes no difference?

Cheers

A long bit of wood held between your ear and potential noise emitting components wink

Or a bit of a pain, but take of one of the two belts to see if the noise disappears...
It should point you in the right direction of the culprit.

Shaun: if the alternator belt is too tight, that'll also cause screaming as it puts excessive side loading on the bearings.
