I reckon your dim dip module has failed

Well these were the same symtoms when mine failed

The dim dip unti is the unit to put headlights on dim when sidelights on and pop ups pop up !

Is a black box under the dash (think drivers side ?) that says Lucas on it

If it's a 'B' plate car (1984/5 IIRC) then it would be unlikely to have dim-dip lighting; that didn't come in until the stupidity years around 1989...

Edit: have a look here for some wiring diagrams:

http://www.wedgeneering.co.uk/TVR%20390SE%20p6.htm

I'm a bit puzzled by your remark about 'blowing driver's side fuse'... the main and dipped filaments are paired so if one goes out the other should too. Which is not to say your car doesn't have different wiring... rolleyes
For the main beams to stay on regardless of the position of the column dip/main switch would require a stuck relay or maybe the dip/main switch itself is iffy.
If you swap relays, make absolutely sure you don't use the one from the injection system that has two '87' terminals on it; that would try to light dips and mains at the same time, which WOULD blow fuses...

Edit again: if you mean the driver's side MOTOR fuse keeps blowing then it sounds like the motor is faulty or jammed... but that wouldn't affect the ability to switch between dip and main beams.

I once had a bulb fault where the stop and tail were shorted together, it took ages to find 'cos you don't think that could be the problem. So it's worth checking the headlamp bulbs too for shorts.

Module above the relays is probably the delay timer for the wash/wipe: if it is it'll have the following coloured wires...
Brown/Lt. Green
Green
Red/Lt. Green
Lt. Green/Black
Yellow/Lt. Green
Black

Probably badged 'Pektron', they made a lot of simple electronics stuff for Brit cars.

The dim/dip had...

Grey
Blue
Brown/White
Red
Yellow/Blue

biggrin

confused RED lights on dash flash!? WTF? eek Could certainly be a bad earth with symptoms like that. Bit odd though; the headlamps are all earthed through a stud at the front nearside suspension tower... might be worth undoing, polishing up all the ring terminals and reassembling.
