Is this a question Graham ? Top photo is Flapper, bottom photos are hotwire.. Me I like the flapper, more pops and bangs. Hot wire can sound be a bit too sensible nuts

Must admit I miss the sound of a flapper but the hotwire still has the V8 with minimal sound suppression and the oomph. Whilst it would be nice to have a flapper I would go for the right car overall.

Out of curiosity what are the pros and cons between the two?

Edit, that is pros and cons between flapper and hotwire.

Yes it was a question. smile

My 390 (top) was of course a flapper...with the lovely pops and bangs, but the engine below is a replacement put into a 1986 390SE (on ebay).

I thought it looked more like my 400 hotwire motor, and as it could be either, just thought I'd ask. smile

Given the choice I'd prefer the flapper noise. biggrin

As far as exhaust noise levels go, my 390 gave 107 db using normal testing method, while my 400 was 109db...similar exhaust systems.

The 390 on ebay has twin pipes, so probably different again.

Some interesting Wedges coming out of the woodwork now. Looks like I'm spoilt for choice. biggrin

Hot wire gives better MPG.....but that depends how you drive it and is mpg really a factor with a wedge?

Flapper for pops and bangs.......hotwire with upgraded ECU to give pops and bangs?

Decisions decisions???

Buy the best car and then put megasquirt on it. Lucas 4CU is poo, and 14CU(X) is, well, a little better, but there are still issues.

MS2 can be configured to dump a bit down the headers on overrun and you'll get the flap crackle & pop, or even reheat if you like your BMWs toasted. Might jigger the lambda sensor in the long run but thats rock and roll, man..!
