I picked up the FHC in the classified last night and drove it all the way from Hull to Kent with no dramas at all!!

Quite pleased really, although I was a bit pissed off that he failed to mention the brake master ctlinder was leaking and the water pump was shot.

I did look over the car but they seem to have 'appeared' on the drive home!, on a plus point, the engine is absolutely silent, no noise at all!

Anyway, the main reason for the purchase was the chassis is 'mint', with a few chips to the powdercoating and a slight dent in one of the rails, probably from a speed hump.

Anyway, Im now in need of a brake master cylinder kit ( Ive found a kit on eaby, 310199480372) which for a tenner will fix that problem.
Im struggling to find a water pump, and while im at it ill do the thermostat,
Any pointers for suppliers?

Ill also be attempting to look at the mess of wires that seem to go everywhere too, but thats another day!
Ill also be asking some suspension questions in the near future as this seem to be floppier that a floppy thing, so poly bushes and new spings and shocks all round me thinks.

Thanks in advance

Stu

Hi, and welcome smile

I've recently had some work done on my 420SE at RT Racing in Sheffield, which included a new water pump. I'm quite new to wedgedom myself, so I'm not sure if they're the same pumps, but I can't imagine there are that many types in use on the wedges... regardless, Richard Thorpe at RT Racing in Sheffield will probably be one of the best guys to ask about it. I haven't got his number at the mo, but a google for "RT Racing Sheffield" will find their website straight away.

Thanks guys

Its the 280 ford V6 cologne engine.

Ive managed to sort a new water pump and new thermostat while I was at it, and some primer and black paint for the pulley so I am happy!
Ill be back out in a min to put it all back together with some hylomar and coperslip, and then test drive in the morning.

I think it will just as easy to get the kit from ebay for the master cylinder and change all the seals while Im at it!.

I might need to change the alloys, luckily I got the original wheels with good tyres in with the deal, so i may get these cleaned up and back on as they have already been refurbed just before being taken off!

Ill be back

sounds like an early model....as they have the quality powder coating on the chassis!!!

go back to the original wheels. i also had 16inch ones fitted, it looked nice but the handling was less crisp as with the original 14inch wheels.

Well done ...looks a nice car. smile

You could also look for spares and engine advice on the Capri 2.8i enthusiast
forums, as they have essentially the same engine/box.

Even motor factors are still worth a try.

I found that putting the thermostat housing and gasket back was a right tt...needing 3 hands . hehe

Hi Graham.

The guy I bought it from said you had called him about it! I take it you werent impressed laugh

And yes, the rear screen doesent work, there are also a lot of switches that seem to do nothing, like the two on the left of the steering column, one says lights and the other is a position switch, ill post pics later today after ive done the valentines thing and fitted the water pump.

Ill post another request, but has anyone got a pic of what the wiring under the bonnet 'should' look like?
its like spaghetti junction under there!! Pic to follow.

The rear thermostat housing does look like fun to refit......

I can't remember phoning about the car.confused

The wiring SHOULD look like spaghetti junction laugh

Mine had issues because of mucky fuses...in fact looking back the best thing I could have done was to have the blinkin thing re-wired properly from the off. rolleyes

Oh, and if you rev them to 7000 the fanbelt comes off, and the bloke you just overtook has the last laugh. hehe
