420SE Engine cuts out!!!
Discussion
I've had a few cutting-out problems - do you have a rev limiter? Get rid.
Check for loose connections.
With hotness the ignition amplifier is a distinct possibility - it's on the front of the dizzy. Especially if it's an Intermotor one.
Also check the dizzy cap and rotor arm.
One last idea is the coil - they can start to fail when they get hot.

Seconding what Adam says plus if it slowly starts to choke as it get's warmer and revs drop till it dies open up the idle as if it has a cold air valve fitted it may be ok when cold but being strangled when hot.
Obviously if it dies with your foot on the throttle holding 1500 rpm it isn't this.

I have a 420SE, once the engine gets hot it just keeps cutting out
Would it be fair to assume because it keeps cutting out that it also restarts OK? If so, how then does it fail?o Stoppind dead when driving normally usually indicates it is ignition related as prior suggestions. or:
o Stalling/dying when coming off the throttle usually indicates a mixture control problem - rich or lean - could be either.
Cut to the chase with two simple tests:
1 Next time it "cuts out when hot", immediately check for sparks at both the king lead and one of the plug leads.
o Nothing at king lead indicates coil/amplifier probs.
o Sparks at king lead but nothing at plug lead indicates cap/rotor arm probs.
2 If sparks are present when the fault occurs, then check spark plugs for colour, one from each bank.
o Both plugs very light to white is likely to be lean (and hot too) indicating a probable air leak into the plenum chamber!
o Both plugs sooty/black is rich, so look at the small number of components that may make that happen!
. o Coolant temp sensor or its connections and local engine earth faulty.
. o Fuel pressure too high due to tired pressure regulator or incorrectly setup adjustable version. 36 psi is usually nominal.
. o Blocked air filter.
. o Worn throttle pot electrically noisy causing random overfuelling.
. o Not sure about Air Flow Meter setup on your engine.
o Both plugs showing a marked difference in condition may be caused by faulty ECU.

Thank you for the advice. The engine cuts out when warm (when u take the foot of the gas. Will start and check the above. Someone did state that it may need the engine oil changing (depending on what it has in at the moment). Engine pressure with good thick oil may halp the tick over, so i have been told.
OK, so, the engine stalls/dies instead of going to tick-over as you come off the throttle? Informative test results to come.
Re Oil? Your engine is clearly being lubricated OK with a working oil pressure otherwise it would have seized, long ago. Very thin oil (maybe??) is not always the best for RV8 but changing it to thicker to make the tickover better? Fantasy Island, methinks? Logic says, thicker oil = more viscosity = more resistance to rotation = marginally lower tick-over speed. You are losing tickover completely due to system malfunction or poor setup.
If you are unfamiliar with basic engine functions, lots of reading needed to gain that knowledge. Not my bag, but someone might know if there is any 420SE info around.

Sounds like check the idle air settings first, I know there is a bypass adjustment at the AFM and I think there might also be one on the throttle butterfly, can't remember.
Adjustment at the AFM purely introduces air, at the throttle butterfly increases air and fuel, best done with an EGA to ensure a clean set up.
For a quick fix just adjust the throttle butterfly backstop so that it stays open a fraction (in fact that may be the only throttle adjustment if there isn't a bypass - sorry can't remember), in effect that's the same as holding the revs with the throttle pedal anyway.
