Minor Chassis problem and identity crisis
Discussion
I hope!
In the steve heath bible there are some quite good pics of a very corroded chassis, and its says 'this chassis is fit for nothing more than the scrap heap'.... errrrrrr, s
t!
Mine has gone along the very front member as in the pics on page 115 and 117, but thankfully the rest is spot on and still fully powder coated!
The plate between the first round section and second square section for the rad is bent out of shape and the left hand round section at 45 degrees has a dent in it!
Do I need to keep the steel panel in there or could it be cut out with the front round section and replaced with a tube or bar for strength?
It also appears that the car has had a front end, well, lets call it re-design rather than smack up! because the front wings no longer have indicators and Im pretty sure the front lower valence and wings are not the correct shape for the 280i FHC +2 1981!(although I could be wrong having just looked at the chassis numbers it appears ive got a series 2 car but the chassis references in the bible are a bit confusing) (FH5166 FI2)(body type 332M)
The back end also has the bumper and seperate exhaust panel rather than the single panel as indicated in the bible!
Jesus, now Im really confused.
I think just to clarify, I think I have a series 2 FHC body with the +2 interior!
Anyone got any ideas??

the wings are straight along the bottom with a bigger flare at the arch.

the rear bumper is in two pieces as per the FHC (not 2+2)

these are the pics from the SH Bible.
This one shows the FHC

This one shows the FHC 2+2

Please ignore the rubber surround hanging off of the bumper! and the yellow, soon to be removed, stripe! and the SH pics are rubbish, sorry.
