After the glovebox dumped it's contents three times on the way home from the MOT (It passed woohoo) I decided to adjust it.....

Now I have fixed the spontaneous opening problem as it's now firmly jammed shut frown levering with increasingly large screwdrivers, hitting it smash and the use of my favorite swearwords censored have all failed to open it so far.

Anyone got tips on releasing the loft door catch ?
Is it possible to poke a coat hanger around the lid and into the catch mechanism ?

It's always dangerous adjusting the catch - for the reason you've just found out! I had this problem and had to get at the fusebox in a hurry.

Do you have a key and lock - if so you can carefully use the key to help pull it. Best bet is to keep pressing it until it pops open.

Other than that - you may have to drill it ;^(

On my 400 I just just took the stupid thing off.

It was already nicely carpeted inside, and reduced weight by at least a kilo. smile

yikes I've only just fitted new veneers !

I'll see if I can make a hooked type implement to pull the blighter open, or hammer something into the catch as I have a spare one somewhere.

Can you get to the other side of the latch by dropping the ECU / relays down and then undo the retaining screws from the wrong end to open with latch still attached?

That might be possible - although it does sound like a certain recipe for skinned knuckles and/or a nasty little rash from the GRP.

I don't use mine as it sticks shut too often

BUT IT DOES OPEN ON IT'S OWN WHEN I GO OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD
(in fact it was the same on both my Wedges)

This does happen quite often so worth a try if you have any local speed bumps in Beverley

Had same problem. It requires a skill to open it. I managed by hitting the glovebox in the left-top corner with a sharp stroke with the little finger end of a clenched fist. Firmly, not very hard, but as I can best describe it with a sharp hit as if you were expecting it to open and do not want your fist to get in the way.

I understand the catch is a B & Q item which is the best around, whilst needing TLC like every other bit of the Wedge. rolleyes

Tell us more, as have loads of old HD around. Where's the magnet ? As mine get rather annoying for Michelle. ( only seems to spring open when she is in the passenger seat smile )

I think it's probably the one near the heads. They are very strong magnets.

Steve is right, the magnets are in the heads and are very strong Paul, they make a good lock if you use 1 magnet and a pice of metal as your latch
