Hi all.

Just went out to take the old girl out for a spin, and soon as I opened the (unlocked) door the alarm went off, making me jump out of my skin, as it's the first time I've heard it. Anyway, that went off after a few seconds, but the wipers started up and now won't stop whatever I do with the wiper control. frown

I was so looking forward to going out in the sun today.

Any suggestions please.

I also noticed that a little connector (thickish red wire) with a fuse in it that goes off the loom and on to the + battery terminal had parted, so have pushed that back together. No effect on anything so far though.

Car starts and runs fine, and indicators work correctly (I know sometimes they share a fuse with the wipers).

A wild guess but could it be something to do with the park switch on the wiper motor broken / shorted?

Alternatively pray for rain jester

Just take the wiper arm off and get out in the sunshine Graham

At least you won't strain the motor or your patience watching it back & forth

Graham .. I'm afraid the constant abuse has finally pushed the old girl over the edge. She will have to go.

My guess would be the park switch as well. It's mounted on the side of the motor. Mine went a few years ago but had no luck finding a new one. Managed to open up the old one and repair the contacts with parts from a similar park switch used on a TR7 motor.

I have spoken to a nice chap - very knowledgeable on Wedges (think he may have been German?) and apparently this fault means your car is now worth nothing. Being a generous sort, I will offer you a hundred notes to cover the costs of your returning the car to Kent... wink

Sounds like a short somewhere. I personally don't like aftermarket alarms - had a minor display of under dash fireworks one night many moons ago in my 1600E that set all kinds of things off. That was down to iffy alarm wiring. Not saying it's that but worth a look?

Thanks all. smile

Well,I fixed it in my normal 'expert' electrician fashion by grabbing a handful of wires under the steering column and giving them a damned good twiddling. irked

Wiper now behaves itself. biggrin

Only thing was that the push thing on the end of the SD1 type wiper stalk, complete with spring (for operating washer) decided to throw itself off during all the excitement, and I'm buggered if I know how the blinkin thing was ever retained in the first place ! So now I have no washers, and MOT due in June.

Any suggestions ?

I DID have a great drive out in the sunshine though. driving 2 weeks hols left too. smile

Cadwell on Saturday to watch the racers.

Spent this evening servicing my friend's S2. As he's a total novice regarding mechanical things, so even managed to impress him. hehe

I think that's all.

The pushy bit was retained by the Will of Allah (or perhaps the Persuasion of Pete wink). There should be a spring behind it and a forked contact arrangement. A small copper ring fitted to the push part shorts the contacts to squirt the water.
Basically, you insert the spring and clip the pushy bit on. If him no stay put, he knackered; talk nicely to me 'cos I think I have a spare from when I made these:

Hmm...I'll bet the small copper ring is on the floor somewhere then, otherwise I'll perhaps be needing that one you have. frown

Ian, if you'll reveal your new whereabouts to me I'll come up and say hello !

Any excuse for a nice ride out during my hols. smile
