Is there one??? Went out for a run today after 'solving' the hot running (everything was good until hitting traffic again) to find that the problem is the fan is labouring and won't start itself. As soon as you give it a little push however it fires into life so it is getting the signal to work OK and then the temp quickly falls so once working it is OK.

Thought I would take it off and see if it was just a build up of crud that was causing this. Worth a try, if not I'll replace it.

So, any pointers in the best way to get the unit of is very welcome. (Just orderd the Wedge bible, can't wait for it to arrive!!!)

Thanks in advance, David

Should be just a few screws holding the support brackets on I'd have thought.
Then disconnect the wiring and she should just lift out. smile

Check the earth connection from it first...might just be that.

Had exactly same problem. Was worn motor (Bushes) fittes a spall, was only 3 screws holding the original in but had to remove bonnet to get to it. All works fine now & much more efficient.

If it's like the Davies Craig (sp?) unit fitted to mine, it's secured with 3 allen headed bolts to the fan shroud. Can be removed without too much trouble, except as suggested, take the bonnet off first. The insides tend to go a bit crunchy with age.

Mine was a right pain, 3 slotted pan head screws, nuts rusted on, I had to saw two of them off with a single-ended hacksaw (I made it myself) and snapped the cowl off the third, which I repaired later.

I would replace them with hex heads in future.

Thanks for all the info gents smile

Bonnet came off as did the skin off my fingers !!! 2 of the screws no problem, the 3rd a total barsteward, ended up cutting it off with a hacksaw blade. A few hours and a few choice expletives later the fan is off. Looks like a sealed unit, couldn't get in to it at all so looks like I will need a new one.

On the label it says:

SSW 1158 (R)
Davis Craig Pty Ltd
Melbourne, Aus
399600 (serial no I guess) 5Y06

Does this mean much to anyone and any suggestions where I can buy a new one???

Thanks in advance again.

Thinks I'll go for Twin Pacets for mine when I get around to it, but to be honest thats just to get the "learjet spooling up" noise that they make...

Such a tart.

Great, thanks smile I had sent a mail direct to Davis Craig but I am sure this will be cheaper. I'll get one ordered tomorrow.
