Hi guys
Ive been looking at shocks and suspension stuff lately, can any one tell me the differance between the standard wedge 350i etc shocks and the 420 seac gear, if you look on the GAZ and Spax sites it shows lots of types, the GAZ GP range are coil overs, Any pics etc.

I've had Redline adjustables (incl. adj.springseats on the rears) fitted by Richard Thorpe at RTracing (Wedge specialist) to both a 280 FHC, and a 400SE.

They're pretty good, suitable for the Wedges, and he does 'supply only' . smile

Ah thats actually what I wanted, not really bothered about the true coilover, just wanted height and damping adjustment, spoke to Richard last week, he was very helpful, he recommends the Gaz setup now which is not coilover but does have adjustable damping, can I ask how much yours were? I must admit I do like the look of the coilovers on the front, ive always hated the granada design.
I really should just buy some off Richard and stop being stingey, but now I just want to find out what I can, seems quite interesting. Fitted some gas dampers on a morris 1000 (super quick lol)and they cost under £100 quid the lot, and in my opinion the mounting brackets etc are much better than the bought kits and they cost a couple of hundred for each axel. thought Id investigate the wedge suspension too.

Moggy thou'...say no more cloud9

I think you'd be talking more like a £100 each for the Redlines. Mine were about 600 quid fitted, but that included new springs all round too...and was a while ago.

Other Wedgers on here have fitted Gaz shockers, so hopefully someone else can advise.

Watch this space ! smile

Yeah wasn't a bad price used mini shocks at about 2 quid each from sutton auto factors, used a bit of steel which was cheap too. Wasnt expecting it to be any cheaper than about 600 to be honest, but just fancied sourcing and fitting myself so I know what was used for the future, I hate not knowing the spec of things that are fitted, they always cost a fortune to buy "specialist parts". When I fitted power steering I was getting ridiculous quotes just for the rack, as far as I could tell the TVR special was just a cortina MKIV rack with granny track rod ends, fitted it years ago and it worked a treat, just wish SH had broght the bible out earlier, would have made my life easier, been a god send that book.
thanks for the info, would be great if anyone does have some of the GAZ shocks, better if they know the part numbers too.
kind regards
Jon

That would be fantastic, thanks, Im just stripping my chassis down today for blasting, i'll tell you its much easier to get at the suspension with the body off. Are your shocks height adjustable too? Did you find the fitting of bushes easy? I did mine some years back, right pain, I cleaned, rust killed and hammerited all the rear chassis/ suspension bits at the same time, six months later the bloody hammerite had come off, think ill try POR15 this time. I spoke to Richard Thorpe last week about bushes, he says that the rears should be nylon not the poly type as they are meant to pivot not flex, wish I knew that when I fitted mine, mine are all poly top hat type, not sure if the nylon ones are the same just different material.
Thanks for the help
Jon
